I am interested, but would like to know what process they are using to make them? The pictures look like its fabricated? Also what material?
Cheers

Hi Andy,
The material is HIPS High Impact Polystyrene. The grill is made from cnc machined pieces that slot together to make a solid unit.
How is this progressing ?
Sorry for the lack of updates. The plastics guys have been extremely busy and the CAD artwork for the grill took longer than expected. I am expecting a prototype next week.

I drew one up and had it laser cut a while back! its a bit of a sod to get right and the CAD can take a while. getting the tolerances right for the joints is an art so that it fits together nice but doesn't rattle loose... with a bit of tweaking and prototypes I got it right in the end. its not as easy as people may assume.

Yes, you're right, not easy at all. Been to the plastics guys today to chat about all those things, up cutters, down cutters, tolerences, start and stop points etc. There is hours of work before cutting even begins.
Prototype is being cut for tomorrow so we will see how it comes out. Hopefully pics to follow shortly!

Prototype is here, I just haven't had time to get pictures up. Just removed my front clam in order to remove standard V badge and test fit the grill.
There are certainly a few adjustments to be made, but all in all I am happy with progress. Will update as soon as time allows!

Use Acrylic paints you will be ok.Cool man. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. How are you fixing it to the OE Grill mate? Also (Wierd question) will it be made of a material that can be sprayed, without the spray attacking the material? I have no idea what Auto paint is made of these days... (probably magic water)

Ok here are a couple of snaps of the protoype:

1435514402202.jpg 43.76KB 34 downloads
The issues with it are:
The cnc cutter rounded the corners too fast and caused juddering on the surface.
The fixing tabs are too long and do not sit flush when folded.
A few of the slots are not deep enough so certain pieces sit proud.
The fixings I have are not quite right, I have just ordered new ones. Until these come I cannot fit it properly so have only offered it up. All of these issues are easy enough to sort out. I will get onto it as soon as I can. Apologies for the delays guys.
Oh the other thing is we cut this out of stock material which is gloss finish rather than matte, so it is a little shiny.
