Had a oil burning smell for about 5-6 weeks now, stripped down various parts to see what was causing it but never noticed anything, then I got a camera endascope and stuck the camera in under the turbo, the tube running from the turbo, expandable flexi pipe has oil over it, looked further and oil is seeping out around the fixing flange, the bolts are not lose that fixes it in place. Question is how hard is it to strip down and replace what looks like gasket leaks, what do I need to do to replace and fix the problem. Not a clam off job I hope😠 information helpful thanks

I bought the upgraded pipe from CS and you can fit it from under the car.

Its tight you will hate the car afterwards but it can be done.

This?

You could try changing the gasket for it. Cant remember there been any difference between the original metal and later Leh oil return pipe Its not that hard to change and more a fiddle due to space Just check its not your turbo oil seal leaking before changing DG

This is what it looks like, any ideas, the pipe work does not look easy to get to, is it oil pipe or turbo seal??

Cleaned off all oil reminence so nice and dry around the turbo fixing nuts and flange plate, run car on tick over for 15 mins and not a sign of any oil leakage, so can the turbo seals or the fixings show oil leakage under turbo load??

Found the leak now, it was the oil return pipe😀 shouldn't really be happy about having to remove the return pipe but at least I know what it was, stupid gaskets but at least that's the leak. Will order the gaskets tomorrow and fit through the week.

Why not nip up the 2 existing bolts , it will quite possibly fix the issue if they were a bit lose, without having to get covered in oil and un-necessarily changing the gasket ?

Tried it yesterday, could not tighten them any more and still leaked, went to the stealers. today and brought the 19tdi gasket as well as the OEM one as they had them both in stock. As the weather is crap over the next two days I will look at changing Thursday. Any helpful tips on how to get to the bolt head close to the engine easier would be helpful.

Should be easy enough to reach in there with a UJ and some extender bars surely?

Good luck.

Bottom return bolt off move pipe to side. Usual heat shield bits off etc and with the correct extension its fairly easy other than the usual vx220 do it blind. Been a while so could not say what combo I used last time The correct size 1/4 inch ratchet and socket is a cheat option iirc not sure if it was imperial to cover that size Have fun DG

Ref the cool running stat are you having temp issues? I found it ran too cool back in the day when I had one and went for a new oem jobbie. Wired in fan overide for extra paranoid moments. Did run low temp one for the 3 week tours around europe but its proper hot there down souuuthhh and was in reg 30+ deg all day and traffic was very hot lol In winter cool stat too low imo DG

Your right the cool stat runs low, took it on track at Goodwood last week with Martin S driving, temps got up to 104 and so thought it should be cooler running if I put in the stat. I am going to check everything when I have the car raised up. Spoke with last owner and he said it never went any higher than 98 when he had a run on track, although Martin was giving it major beans😂😂

You need to get your bits sorted mate, that temp doesn't sound right. I reckon a proper shakedown before the National will sort the final bits and turn your show car into more of a track weapon :) Have a couple of track days lined up for July and August - I'll drop you a PM later in the week ok.
