I Have finally got round to finishing off and testing the short TAT style diffuser

If anyone wants one they are:

* Black powder coated £175 plus postage

* Plain aluminium £150 plus postage

Not sure how much postage will be yet.

Will come with new bolts and washers but you will have to re use the spire nuts off the original under tray.

I can drill off and fit the centre veins as per image or you can drill them off yourself at whatever offset you prefer.

I like the TAT (short)  because it follows the VX curved edges... Can you bend yours similar?

Bend it over a piece of pipe rather than with a folder thumbsup

I did have a go at that but I was surprised how much pressure it takes to bend 2mm ally over a 600mm length I couldn't get it anywhere near!!

It will probably look already miles better with that sharp 90° angle bend in several small sections...

(but still prefer the round TAT look.)

Did you copy the exact outline of a TAT short (so a curved angle should fit), or your own interpretation?

Yeah it can be tricky, especially getting it dead even.  It's been a while since I did it but I've used two approaches.

1) Piece of tube over 2 saw-horses.  Sheet over the tube and a one person either side to give it a shove.  Works well but care needs to be taken with the alignment

2) Piece of tube clamped to the edge of a bench with the sheet clamped between the two.  MUST be clamped hard and its best at the edge of the bench so you can get a grip of it.  Shove the sheet upwards from below.  Works well, the clamping allows you to align the sheet well but it requires a big bench and lots of space.

HTH?

cheers for the advice! I did try something very similar to what your suggesting but I found that I was bending the main body as well as the bit I wanted to bend!!! and also getting it in the correct position was tricky, I ve wasted a few laser cut sheets trying to get these right haha

it looks a bit wonky.

Looks like the side fins are bent to 90 degrees and then bent back to make it 100-110, but that bends the top surface of the diffuser rather than open up the angle. so there is that slightly awkward lip up before the 90 degree bend. I'd bend it less in the first place

The fins look a bit odd too. the mix of straight lines and curve doesn't quite work. I'd give them a single curve

it doesn't look like the diffuser is sitting flush with the clam. not sure how to fix it, it looks too wide for the clam aperture, partly because you've used right angles at the edge rather than a curve to match the clam.

needs a bit more thought imo, but good effort.

Without sounding defensive.....

Not sure what you mean by "wonky" the diffuser rear edge is 20mm short of the rear clam all the way around I will try and get a photo from underneath.

The bends are at about 100deg and were done professionally at the fabricators so are perfectly flat, think its the angle of the photo and the profile! if you look at the third picky down you can see there is no kink!

I personally didnt like the curve ending at the bend thats why I put a little flat to sharpen it up but I suppose its just personal preference....

The only way to finish flush with the rear clam is to bend it up as the clam has a slight radius underneath! the TAT ones (well the ones Ive seen) do the same but yeah maybe with the curves on the edge it would be a little closer.

Im looking into the curved edges

Thanks for the comments
