Help! The auction winner has dropped me right in it. Having sold the car and spoken with him on the phone. Arranged collection and everything. He sent me a wonderful text saying "Im sorry but I'm not going to be able to buy the car sorry for wasting your time" Now having bid for the car and won, is it not a legally binding contract in which he has to purchase the car if it is as described? He has not even viewed the car, yet had been keen to arrange collection and take the car. I'm stuck as I need the car shifted as I already have its replacement. Its now SORN and stored off the road but its in the way. I haven't offered a second chance yet as I'm hoping he will come round and buy it. Yes I know comments about deposits will come and this is something I have now learned is a must. Is there anything I can or should do other than leave bad feedback and report through ebay? Obviously forcing the car on him is not going to be a pleasant sale for either party. But he did bid multiple times for the car and win at a low price for the car. Is it worth getting my solicitor involved or relisting the car and taking more off a loss and even more time to shift it? Ive been through small claims a number of times but not for something like ebay. Ive had a little more interest as I haven't removed the pistonheads advert yet. But not enough to have someone after it. Does anyone have any insight or can offer any advice other than the comments of "ill give you a fiver for it"?? Fellow enthusiast genuinely trying with all my might to sell the car without losing more money than I already have

If it's any consolation I'd perhaps ask the mods to remove this thread from here as it doesn't do your car any favours, perhaps give it a proper clean, black the tyres and take some new photos. Then resist it, being very honest and detailing any faults etc, if any. It's a bloody cheap vx220, smashed up ones are on ebay for a similar price to what you sold it for. It would make a great project for someone to fit new engine and Supercharge. Let's face it with a suspension refresh it would be like a new car bar the engine and box, which are peanuts anyway. I can't honesty see why this hasn't sold, if I had a spare 5k and a non bank manager wife I'd be very interested just to have a vx to tinker with. With regards to ebay I'd just forget about it and move on. Reduce your pistonheads price and just be as honest as you possibly can. Good luck. It deserves to sell.someone will be getting a bargain.

Sorry to hear above, never good when selling via ebay.

Just offer to the 2nd bidder, wasn't those bids still high ?

£5,200.00, £5,200.00, £5,100.00, £4,900.00

So you wouldn't be loosing much

I had one of the bidders who is a member on here pm me. And he wants it. Ive dropped the price to what he bid and fingers crossed he is picking up up Friday morning. Hopefully he is pleased and enjoys the near 300 mile drive home from mine. I'll let you know if it goes and I'm sure the new owner may say something on hete

Dont sell cars on ebay! Just use classified ad. The auctions are for losers.

I've sold my last 5 or 6 cars on eBay - all via 99p start, no reserve 10 day auctions and sold to the winning bidder within a few days, and all for good prices. Only had one drop out (he was an idiot), but sold again within a couple of weeks for more or less the same price. You reap what you sow... Compared with classified ads, I'd say it's considerably quicker and easier to sell via an auction. Plus, you don't have the worry of getting the price too low and selling too quickly or too high and not selling. It's fairly obvious what's gone on in this case.

My experience exactly, last car i sold to a guy who was working in South Africa, he transfered the money that day via internet banking and collected it 5 weeks later. I like to speak to buyer on phone if possible as i can sniff out a liar in one sentance :)

I just want my car sold to someone who wants it and will enjoy it like I did. I let both ebay auctions run and was happy for them to sell themselves and both times I contacted the winning bidder to arrange collection.

I spoke to the winning bidder in both cases via phone. Both text me rather than ringing me to say they had changed their minds. Both arranged collection with me over the phone and we agreed on dates and times.

Dollon..name and shame the ebayers name on here...we have alot of dteectives amongst the .orgers..it will help both you and other sellers/buyers...their ebay profile must be put at "risk" status if they are poor bidders

Also put up their mobile phone numbers and lets see what a couple of googles come up with...

..also why dont you just contact the other bidders...and take a slightly lower price..

glws..we will help if you want to take help but secrecy and a poor thread doesnt help anyone...as stated before ...truth normally generates trust.....

edit after post.....did you make the advert 100% open with any potential defects....or are all potential defects..e.g.. the back suspension been fixed..there still hasnt been any ipdated photos although you said new wassits had been purchased....I suggest you also get a brand new mot to show road worthiness....

As mentioned. A member on here who is more than happy to show him/herself has purchased the car and has organised flights to collect the car Friday morning. I'm sure s/he will make themselves known in the not too distant future.
