Thanks for the good comments guys, was a lot of work from my good mates and I to get it here.

God almighty, awesome project, quite awesome. Loads of new ideas in there, I particularly like the exhaust box config, never thought of doing that.

Can't wait to meet this car and you :)

880 Kg is bloody light, I wonder how you got it so low ?

I guess its so low because the car literally has not one creature comfort.  all interior bar seats are gone, door looms and central locking gone, heaters, fans, all controls gone. Stereo gone, ABS gone, etc etc. The basics to get me round a track :thefinger:

How is your rear wing attached? Onto or through the clam? Angle looks a bit steep.

Wing is attached to the rear subframe, there are holes in the clam. Angle is a bit steep in that pic, it is adjustable. Its done about 145 so far so I guess its attached OK

Nice build. Is the c20 a better block than z20?

C20 block is a fair bit stronger out the box but it doesn't have the under piston oil jets like the LEH ones do.   My block was machined and the cooling jets fitted.

You can use a C20 block and bolt all the Z20LET/H bits to it with some minor adjustments.

These sorts of off the wall projects really make my day, it's great to see the creativeness, tenacity and sheer inventive problem solving skill.

Makes me proud to be British - "what what" !

What ECU have you got in there BTW?

Great project there. I wish i had your skills with the tools. Excellent work. What money did you pay for the paint job.

Thanks, I paid mates rates for it, was cheap for the job they did!   The clams cost a fair bit to repair though at the fiberglass guy but MUCH cheaper than buying new ones.

What ECU have you got in there BTW?

The ECU is a Zlet from an astra gsi I think.  The Boost controller is used to control boost instead of the ECU so I can adjust it to suit conditions,( take boost out in 2nd and 3rd gear if its raining etc). Just keep the old boost solenoids plugged in and the ECU stays happy lol.

They can go lighter mines 838kg dry, no driver but as well as a lighter engine I've got jonnyboy lightweight front clam, cut down rear clam, cut out doors, cut out door beams, lighter engine and front lids, no passenger seat, no headlights, single skin roof, no arch liners, fixed Lexan windows with slider so no window mech, Lexan rear window. Then I get in and spoil it all!

Car looks great, everything looks very smart, nice project. What was your Santa pod time and terminal with that power/weight?

I had a look over your car at silverstone one weekend and gave me some inspiration for this,  I have a lexan windscreen and rear window but not side widows as It is used on the road occasionally. Im pretty much the same as you in lightening things up, clams, lids etc I guess the difference in engine weights must be quite considerable.

Should be, all going well thumbsup .  Hope to leave Glasgow Friday lunch time

I cant remember terminals etc but I did a 12.2 that was pretty much my first time driving the car since it was built.  I'm pretty confident I could get quicker now.(excuses :)

At the start of this year the clutch died, so the engine came back out again to change it.  I decided to future proof it for any power hikes etc and just got a helix paddle.

I also bought a F23 from a Zafira with the 4.17 Final drive and swapped it into my Gearbox for some better acceleration on track. I paid 80 quid for the box on ebay. The conversion kit from Courtenay costs about about 1000.

Fitted a quaife diff too while the box was split, would be rude not to! thumbsup

Fitted a nice and simple gearbox breather, cost about a tenner.

Posted Image

Whilst the engine was out I took the chance to fit an oil cooler as the oil was just getting too hot on track.

I decided to go for a big one as the air flow into the rear clam is pretty crap. Its mounted in the rear as I believe the run up to the front of the car and back is just too much for the mechanical oil pump to do.  I don’t have any pics but there are 2 big hoses running from the cooler to the passenger side vent.

I was there for the first time yesterday, did a couple of runs, but the 27c trackside temps weren't helping matters (with my intercooler). I got almost identical runs 12.19 and 12.21. So basically the same as yours, I think an 11 would be on the cards with cooler conditions.

I think you'll notice a difference with that gearbox - ~15% shorter!
