Went out for a drive today and steering/handling (not quite sure which) felt quite vague and imprecise when cornering....felt like the tyre pressures were two soft or someone had softened up my suspension (tyres pressures were fine)....it gave the feeling that you might run wide in the corners (but didn't actually). Its normally very precise in the corners - you just point and go.

Suspension is only a couple of years old so unlikely to be worn.

kind of worrying - any ideas what to check first ?

Check your ball joints and bushes by jacking the car up securely and then really pulling them back/fwd and up/down with lots of force. Then check the UJ's on the steering column.

As above, Also to check the rack try rocking your steering wheel side to side gently with two fingers and see if you have any play, as you go from one direction to the other you should feel the resistance of the wheel with no knocking or play. Then get someone to rock the wheel gently side to side and watch or feel for play in the track rod ends. .

Typically most people run 25FR  2RR7 or 24FR 26RR depending on tyres.

My turbo felt like this when the engine mounts were on the way out.  Do you get the traditional grinding noise if you floor it in first gear?

Not noticed a grinding noise but will experiment this evening (haven't had time to do the other checks yet...)

some of the engine mounts were changed a while back at CS during some upgrades but not sure if it was all of them...will check the paperwork this evening.

just to update this thread - turns out my Nitron Street series dampers are leaking at the front combined with engine mount issues probably explains my problems.

Nitrons are going back for a full refurb - they are only 3 years old - would have hoped they would last longer than this....

Any idea on cost for the Nitron refurb? I have some with Eibach springs, and have no idea if they require a refurb or not.

I was told between £200 and £300 and the not inconsiderable labour to remove, refit and geo.....
