Just had a shock with insurance quote from Norwich Union Direct. If my VX is a standard model then premium quoted is a very reasonable £247 limited to 5000 miles. Because i have what they term as the LE model, the lightening yellow version the premium increases to £344.
Really cannot understand the rationale behind this. Has anyone else come accross this.
Also seems strange but if you put your wife on as a named driver with most companies the premium reduces.

Hi Paul,
Its all down to statistics I'm afraid. The VX220 LE is classed as a different model and has seperate statistical tables. Different insurers may see the LE as a better risk than others. My VX is in my wifes name and adding me as a named driver halved the premium, 'cause I'm rather less young.

Blimey, thats put an end to me considering a Lightning -I'm having hard enough time trying to find insurance under 2 grand! Yellow paint really must make the car go faster!

To get your £247 quote, did it come up online, or did you have to ring them?
I keep getting "We are sorry but we are unable to provide your quotation online."

I guess the relatively "low quote" is one of the benefits of age 
I can't understand how NU can justify 2 groups up for the LE
I also can't understand why adding the wife to the policy reduces the premium by £30 
Its still better than my Elise quote for 3000 miles - £335 before I declared sports exhaust & filter which put it up to £394
Its still cheap fun per £

Quote was online with no problems. Car is declared as a second vehicle used for pleasure only. Suggest you email them & ask why they can't quote online. They responded to my query immediately.
I have now however decided to stick with my current insurer (Footman James) who will put the car on a Secialist Vehicle Policy for £279 and not charge additional premium for modifying with an induction air filter. Seems very reasonable to me.
