I have one of these sort of things on the shelf in my garage. Ive not used it other than to have a look down my throat/ears/nose etc 2 years ago. But, if it still works and i remember it (big if) i can bring it to bedford on the 28th.

ThANks Mark, please bring it as that will be my weekend of doing a few hundred miles and really seeing the state of play as it is now.
I agree oil will make bugger all difference but feel like anythings worth a try.

Was booked in for a leak down test and they rang to say they could no longer fit me in. Booked in with another garage locally who knew what a leak down test was (most didn't!), went down at 10.30 told me all their ramps were full so could I come back (pointed out it didn't need a ramp to do a leak down test!), went home and they didn't ring.
How can it be so hard to get this stuff done, you'd think I lived in the bloody desert not southern England!
So, no new info. Ho hum.

ps Anyone going to Bedford next week who has a Saab conversion. I want to compare dipsticks!

If you want to be sure of the correct oil quantity and dipstick indication, just drain all the oil and put ~5.5l liter back in.
(The LSJ spec say Oil Capacity - with Filter 5.7L / 6.0 quarts, but the filter cavity does take some oil.)

I was told the Saab engine takes 7 litres. When we've changed the oil though, its always just been drained and then refilled, using the dipstick to tell us when full rather than measuring in the amount. Just feel its behaving the way a car would if you over fill as is showing no other oil losing characteristics.

Complete oil drain down with filter change takes about 7 litres of oil. I've done 6 oil changes on mine now it takes the same amount each time.

you both have the Saab dipstick and Saab dipstick tube, which matches the Saab sump - as GM intended
Which means roughly 6.5 litres per oil change.
It's when you use the vx220 dipstick tube in the B207 engine that it gets over-filled - it requires a good 7 litres per oil change.

I can imagine that a complete dry system in a VX220 with an empty remote oil cooler takes more, but for just refilling the block I would not use more than the above specced 5.7 - 6 liter. (and then check where your dipstick reads)
