It seems Santa comes in the form of Matt and Lee!

Its great news and the fixes make sense, even to a numpty like me.

I've grown to hate exhaust systems on vx's now having had that system on and off several; times over the last few months only to find that it was one of the biggest problems (yes Frank and Chill you were right all along)!.

It is a shame it still runs out of puff at 6800 especially as it had dbilas springs, stage 2 cams etc all done for the higher rev power but I'm not ever going to complain about 300bhp at 6800, nice and safe, but its a mystery that would still be good to solve, especially as it seems to affect other saab engines as well.

Cant praise Matt and Lee enough for all they've done, I had got to the point where I'd had enough but thanks to all their hard work and brain power I will hopefully once again get to enjoy the car again.

Thanks boys, have a great Christmas.

What fuel pump are you running Martin Has the fuel filter been changed Everything has to work together to get the big numbers I actually think the exhaust could still be your restriction despite removing CAT and think it's done well to achieve its figures Other question is air filter And have the spark plugs been fowled Has anyone tried a coil pack on it

Have you thought about what exhaust you're going to put on now Martin?

After all the trouble you had, I think you should leave it for now and first enjoy your well earned holidays Martin...

As besides that drop at high revs, with such broad torque spread this engine should be very nice to drive between 3,5 and 6,5K!

Seems that your weird trottle problems are gone, and it would be nice if the massive oil consumption is also cured now. Or at least coming back to acceptable figures...

maybe worth Vocky moving the inlet cam.

as you found out when you checked them, the CompCams were indeed timed correctly and I would rather fit stronger cams than alter the manufacturers timing positions thumbsup

I had a similar power drop off on a z22 stage 2 with a 2.25 exhaust. It went away completely when the 2.5 was fitted.

Didn't Joe say it was a knackered cat about 15 pages ago?

He does not need a 3" to wring-out the last bhp...  Just a good 2,5" downpipe to complement his current system (it's a 2,5 manifold & 2,5 muffler, right?) should work fine for his power level.

That final graph shows that something is strangling his power, as the torque slowly rises to a max @6500 and then suddenly drops of a cliff...

Easiest thing to check is to simply fit a 2,5" straight catless downpipe and see what it does to the power. (Maybe there is some weird exhaust oscillation going on, don't know)

But first make an OBD power graph of this current state to have a solid base figure to work from! Then modify and compare OBD powertest to see improvements...

Edit; If JG is right with his experience than this would be an easy cure! Somebody can lend Martin a 2,5 downpipe to try? (I have one, but needs shipping over the pond.)

Think the pump should be OK as fuelling is fine all the way. Air filter is small but keeps boost all the way up the revs. You would drop boost if you had a restriction in the inlet

a z22se makes about 300bhp with the same mods as this car.

So a 2.0 should make more

get real :P

If you can shove in the same amount of air (by the SC & pulley), it should make the same power...

It's a brand new engine that had major back pressure problems due to driving hundreds of miles with a blocked downpipe.

There you go, exactly 15 pages ago

My 2.2 otherwise same as martins made 305 Martin on 3.0 pulley where I was on 3.1 but I revved to 7500 Martins 2.0 3.0 pulley already making more than mine with the reduced revs Oh mine had 2.5 exhaust m62

Makes sense for the symptoms but it'll be interesting to know the exhaust woes start to finish as wasn't that checked and replaced a few times :/

bit of background with exhaust  martin had it repaired before zandvoort (flexi issues) but was by the time we got to zandvoort the flexi had gone again  all this was on first down pipe    we then swapped down pipe at zandvoort for one from frank  the track day went resonably well but the car was not mapped, maybe just a fuel run from the previous down pipe (unsure of condition ) martin was not 100% happy with the car at zandvoort but considering the issues before he did very well    after getting home thats when the inlet pressures started to increase and the power went down so this was probably the start of the blocked cat.   at this point the exhaust was passed as ok but we suspect not

Don't all the engines running stg 2 comp cams go wobbly around 6800? Is anyone actually running >7500 smoothly with these cams?

When you say smooth ? Mine is smooth is it worth mentioning that these cams were developed for a 2.4 litre and reach peak torque at 8500 rpm

So longer stroke and bigger bore (less shrouding of the valves). Might not be good for 2L.

Its deff the Exhaust top end in my opinion nothing wrong with fuel  pump we had loads of fuel there  doesn't need to rev any higher in my opinion with the m62 on .
