Watched the trailer with my 7 year old son. Afterwards he said "isn't Han Solo in it?" so I played it again and paused it on the image of Harrison Ford.
"That's not Han Solo - that's an old man. Why is is old?"
It's a 12A certificate - will have to find out why before taking him to see it

"Chewie, we're home" (lump in throat)
The character who doesn't make an obvious appearance (other than a VO on the earlier trailer "The Force is strong in my family...") is Luke Skywalker - not in any of the trailers nor on the poster. I'm pretty sure I know why too... (da da de da)

Luke...
No sign of 3PO in the trailer either

OK, let me re-phrase. You don't see Luke Skywalker's face. I think he is in it - fulfilling his destiny, as stated in previous episodes, to restore balance in the Force. Balance as in good and bad. You see where I'm going with this?

I mistakenly bought tickets (at 4:30am yesterday) for it at the BFI IMAX. All well and good except it turns out it's a 3D showing. Gutted. Non-refundable and non-transferable, so I guess I'll have to endure it in 3D. So got another pair of tickets for a different cinema for a 2D showing last night.I need to see this on IMAX. Errrr... because my son will enjoy it better that way....

I went to the Royal Premier at Leicester Square of the original Episode 4. Just the sound of the Tie fighters and the Millenium Falcon in the first trailer for this sold me.I was a small boy when the originals came out, loved them....hated the last 3.

I'm skeptical. The originals were awesome because of the low budget and everyone pulling together to make it great. It just worked well. The remastered versions shitted it up a bit (shows that throwing money at it isn't always best). The prequals were a bit ropey despite a bigger budget mostly due to the CGI. I'm not expecting great things from these three (although I will go see them) as they will be massive budget disney specials. Can't wait for that vomitous disney ending.

The original was awesome because I was (about) 6 when dad took me to the cinema to see it. For weeks after I BELIEVED that I was Luke Skywalker.
The new ones were a bit rubbish because I was 30 ish when I saw them and they are basically kids' films.
That said, the unique sounds of Star Wars still takes me back to a faintly remembered youth. Worth the price of an IMAX ticket on its own.

Ah yes, nostalgia sells. I'll bet you think these were awesome too. How much would you pay for one now?

...as it happens, I do happen to think that Eval is awesome. So is Stretch Armstrong.
Sadly my inner child seems to have departed and I collect nothing except VX220 parts and ungrateful children (my own, I hasten to add) these days.

Rumour / speculation may be that Luke is the masked baddie, fulfilling his destiny, like in his premonition he had on Dagobah where it was him in Darth Vaders mask.. Plus, the baddie seems to have an obsession with Vader, as in something his son might have..

Watched IV to VI recently with the girlfriend - she's never seen them.
She insisted we watch I to III. Half way through I she can't be bothered to watch it any more. Neither can I.
Let's be honest, none of the characters are that interesting apart from Darth Vader, and without him it's a bit like Silence of the Lambs without Lector, or even Jaws without a shark.
I will watch the new one, but suspect it will be c r a p.
