I'm looking at doing an HID conversion - I've got a bulb out anyway ... And could definitely do with better light for the dark Scottish nights. Few questions;- 1. Is it my H1 or H7 that's out? (See pictures) 2. There are lots of kits on eBay and Amazon - they vary greatly in price. I'm thinking 6000k in terms of colour. 35W and was thinking a slim ballast with an aluminium casing might be best.... anyone got a particular brand or supplier that they would recommend? I'm pretty certain that h7 that is out. Most of the eBay kits are made in China so buying one from China is cheapest (if you don't mind waiting). I've bought and fitted two hid kits as it's cheaper than buying one bulb from Halfrauds! Don't put main beam hid in as they take too long to warm up so can't be used for flashing. Good luck.

Mine works quickly enough for flashing, can't remember what brand but eBay, Chinese ones, both 6000k, as I was advised the higher the number the bluer the tint? Just remember the rubber caps, if cut right will seal the bung of the Hid kit.

A previous owner put a HID kit on mine and when I got it the wires were fried. Be careful.

I did a lot of work on my lights recently and can say for 100% that is a H1

It's a 6000 H7. There is a firm somewhere near Greenford that sells them (Chinese) on Ebay. I drove there and bought two complete kits for about £60. I run them all the time, even during daylight and get about 18months per bulb, and have changed one ballast.

Try and get ones with a pressed metal fitting, rather than the plastic fitting. The VX cluster is very precisely machined and the plastic HID bulbs don't fit well. You may pay a couple of quid more, but they will be massively easier to fit, and the projected image is much more accurate. Just my 2p worth.

Sorry to bring the thread back to life, but how are you getting on with the kits now? I always thought the lower the K number, the whiter the light, are the 6k ok for driving in the dark, and are not too blue?

That is correct. I think the 6k variant is more commonly available but IMO a little too blue so I opted for 5k when I did mine last year. They're superbright white and look comparable to real xenon lights, I'm really pleased with them

I have done an upgrade on my VXR8 headlights with a kit from Australia, I also changed the side lights to an LED bright white bulb. Has anyone done this with their vx's??? If so what bulbs did you use, Canbus or no Canbus?
