Anyone fancy breaking the journey back to Calais with a stopover (Saturday night) in Ghent or Brugge?

Too late, we've booked the Harwich ferry now. 😟 At least I'll save 500 miles for use some other time on my limited mileage policy. CCI wanted an arm & a leg to increase the annual mileage limit on renewal😠

I've just found out that good friends of ours are getting married on the 13th August. I'll now have a battle on my hands to find a way out, whilst keeping wifey & our friends happy.

Martin, anymore thoughts on the stopover. Warming to the idea of Ypres, it's such a big part of our history.

Hi Lee, it is such a moving occasion, surrounded by the names of 54,000, a mere fraction of the soldiers that fell in WW1, average age I guess of around 20. In fact there is another gate built for the others further down the road. I believe these are the names of those who's bodies were never found/identified. Looking at where the soldiers came from it truly was a world war.

It was virtually completely leveled and it has been rebuilt as close to the original as possible

My votes Ghent as its  a bit livelier I'm guessing as Ypres looks small, but anywhere that's not in France is ok.

Vote??
