I'm just about to start the task of building a loom to fit the z20let using a Motec M800 ecu. I've bought the unterminated Motec loom but I'm looking for some help with the standard wiring on the coil and other standard items. Has anyone fitted an aftermarket ecu on a VXT that could help with the wiring colour codes? Any other Motecs on VX220's ?

I have done a plug and play standalone ecu package for the vxt
Sounds good I might have to look into that I want to do it right first time electrical gremlins are no fun

Is there any info on the details of this somewhere?
Is it on your site?

No I haven't advertised it yet. It uses this ecu:
http://ecumaster.co....management-unit
Comes with a link loom to plug into the standard wiring, or you can cut the plugs off your loom and wire direct.
Currently putting one on Nigels 400bhp vxt.

I am confident enough to say with my new motronic software it will drive better than any standalone ecu
It is very hard to beat OE drive ability from standard with aftermarket. But for most from stg2 upwards you loose the finesse and drive ability.

Once we get the head gasket replaced on our stage 4 we might be looking at a bit more power and the idea of a standalone ECU keeps coming up but it's not the easiest of solutions with the money involved

Exactly and why I developed the adaptronic standalone setup on the vxt many years back, skill of the mapper plays a massive part regardless of ecu brand in my experience Now the newer vag ecu with my custom setting on the vag tfsi conversion is the best of both worlds imo. Matthew is there any advantage to those who are not cost driven to going for a better stand alone ecu or are they all much of a much?.....apologies for question but I have no knowledge on these products.
Like everything else in my opinion you get what you pay for, if you can afford the real deal don't get anything else. There is a reason why the big guys run the likes of Pectel and Motec they're reliable they are compatible with their other products (dash, ignition modules, gps ...) and you get professional tuners and plenty of backup.
Having somebody you can call up at the side of a track who you can send a data log when you're suffering a random miss-fire, that can call you back fifteen minutes later to tell you it's the strain gauge for the flat shift misbehaving is invaluable.

He is on the forum.

The advantage of a standalone ECU for anyone is the easy and open ability to change and control the management of the drive train. When you upgrade external or internal components on the drive train you need to modify the management to control the system correctly for these modifications (more boost, different turbo, compression changes, flow changes etc). Standalone gives full control and ease of modification of these controls.
In simple terms you get to change the 'mapping' or 'calibration' of any parameter easily. The issue with OE Ecu's is all the control parameters are hidden away in the ECU and you can't get to them. So a lot of the time guess work is used to find how to change the mapping for the new modifications. This is why Sizeten spends so much time trying to find all the maps and control tables for the OE kit.
You also gain additional features with aftermarket ECU's like wideband lambda, launch control, traction control, switchable maps etc.

I agree, often with aftermarket ECU's you buy cheaper and the ECU is limited with what it can control, or limited inputs etc. Or the functionality and control of the available options/systems is poor.

Ok Matthew I understand that part but my original question is would i benefit from a better stand alone system than what your currently offering?
I use the EMU because IMO it offers far more than the rest of the ECU's in that price bracket offer. I also have a direct link to the manufacturer so specific requirements I have can be met (currently running on a sequential gearbox Exige and they wrote me strategies for gear cut and blip for paddleshift that is now available for all)
It comes with built in wideband and knock control, DBW control, Can etc etc that most systems don't offer. I also think it covers everything needed for a VX220.
If you went for a more expensive system like Syvecs you would have an even more capable system, but IMO most of that would be redundant in your application.
Wait a few weeks for Nigels to be up and running, he wants to take it to circuit. Come along, I can show you the kit, show you the software, datalogging etc, you can also see it in action. (Don't know if we will have set up anti lag etc by then )

Nigel might want to go Sequential next year so will probably do a bell housing for the EP 6/7 Speed box so it fits on the z20let/leh. Already fits on Honda K20 and Toyota 2zz, Scuffers is currently doing one for the Audi engine I think.

I'd be interested in the EP box if it can take the torque and power I'm aiming for. I'll give you a call about the wiring if you think you'd be able to help. I can get any info for the Motec it's just connecting it up to the Z20let sensors, coil and throttle body etc.
