the rotors (that i have) are of entirely different design*
curved vane directional/side orientation vs unidirectional straight vane
thinner walls, fatter core
smaller overall braking disc area, greater hat diamater
and as mentioned, internally vented vs externally vented
*(im not sure what the origin/brand is of the 308mm vectra rotor is)

Tesla discs are the same design as the Elise discs with the large air gap and the thin(ner) wear surface. (AFAIK made by EBC in the UK for Lotus)
Elise S2 288mm discs are around the 5.8-6Kg mark too and were used as an optional upgrade on the VX turbo in 5-bolt cross-drilled form (and quite expensive at the time!)
Opel/Vauxhall discs as used on the Speedster/VX/Astra/SAAB/etc. are the 'narrow vent' type with much more massive wear surface and as you noticed a lot heavier as a result.
Bye, Arno.

You could also consider Alfa 159 discs, there are a variety that fit our exact stud pattern. I currently have 330mm x 28mm Alfa discs on the front of my car, they are heavy (around 8 Kg from memory) and have a huge amount of meat on them (that could be machined off if you wanted them lighter), but this means I will likely never need to change them. My discs cost £15 each - yes really !

I converted my front brake setup to Porsche 4 pot Brembos + Alfa 159 discs + M12 bolt conversion + spacers for a total cost of just £340 as budget was key for me; what is your budget for your whole project ?

Heya Nev,
I read through your Porsche/Alpha setup a while ago - isnt it neat when it all just slots together
that said, its a step further than Im prepared to go at present. In particular, Im going for the 'no adapter' Approach, as Ive got a bunch of other things i Need to sneak through TÜV and I dont want to get hung up on stuff like the brakes when I can avoid it.
Ive been thinking about it the last couple of days... Im tempted to just run the setup exactly as ist done on the Tesla. 300mm front, 310mm rear, Standard calipers all round (i ended up buying the Tesla front calipers). theres lots of possibilities to change things incrementally (ie 310 or 320 front) but given the general tendency to try and increase the rear bias a notch anyway, i think itll be interesting to see what a relative rotor increase on the back does.
the telsa has a significant rearward weight bias in comparison to say an elise:
tesla: 34:66
elise: 38:62
so the brakes obviously have a bit more rear bias. plus its a good 3-400kg heavier overall.
*shrugs* Ive got all the parts here, it all bolts up, ist all quite light, and its a significant improvment over the stock brakes, which alone arent terrible anyway. Ive got some DS2500 pads sitting here, and all in all, it doesnt strike me as a bad setup.

So the 300mm front discs are a 100% fit as well?
300mm disc that shave a good kilogram a corner of unsprung weight seems like a good idea.
Cant find a supplier atm though.
