pedal box and master cyls are out of the donor and reinstalled into mine. i discovered the oem position of the pedals disagreed with the length of my legs, despite all efforts to get the seat as way back as possible. what i found interesting was the difference in pedal position between the accel, and the brake/clutch pedals. the accel sat a good 30-40mm deeper than the other two, requiring a big lift-off to get from gas to brake. i guess this is some OEM safety thing? either way, its a massive amount of foot/leg work that i dont need, so ive been busy making up some spacers to fit under the brake and clutch master cyls, spacing them off the pedalbox bulkhead ~6mm - shifting the pedal position some 30mm downrange. theres still a small step from gas to brake, but not much. most importanatly i dont have to lift my whole leg (which is already shrink wrapped into the foot well) to get between pedals :) pics to follow

look forward to see what you do with the dash! I've had similar ideas but never got around to trying anything.

It's a backburner project, so don't hold your breath (certainly feels/looks good from the drivers position though). My main concern is getting through to the back of the car, getting the engine in, and getting this sucker running.

Although... I also have a spare OEM dash that will get a makeover in the meantime ;)

Quick shot of the altered pedal position. Clutch pedal is spaced (6mm at the bulkhead) the brake and gas pedals are in stock position. Spacers made from some GRP/FRP composite.

The gas pedal bolts on. You could unbolt it, align it with the brake and rebolt it. Or, given its just round bar, bend it level. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, i guess if you weren't legroom challenged, you could just bend the gas pedal towards you. I'm the opposite tho, and it wasn't so much the pedal position descrepancy itself that was killing me, more how much the brake and clutch protruded into the footwell. The fact the gas pedal already sat back a bit was a bonus.

Plus I got the Titan rack installed with new raised rack position mounts. A bit of stuffing about to get it all fitted and mounted, but she's in. another thing ticked off the list

Nope. On cars you want the brake pedal 'at rest' above the level of the throttle pedal.

Reason is simple.. Brake hard, brake pedal drops down quite a bit, and now the brake pedal comes in a similar plane to the throttle pedal foor proper heel&toe to 'blip' the throttle pedal on downshift, ease off of the brake pedal and re-apply your foot to the throttle.

In your setup your foot will end up well  below the level of the throttle pedal when braking hard and it will make H&T very hard and highly annoying.

Also you run the risk of misplacing your foot on the brake pedal and 'catching' the throttle at the same time making for a very unpleasant surprise where you try to brake hard, but for some reason the car doesn't want to slow down as you are (un-aware) that you are pushing on the throttle at the same time.

If you don't care about H&T, that's up to you and a personal thing (although I would strongly advise learning it for these cars to keep it pointing in the right direction when 'making progress' on twisty roads or tracks..), but the OEM relative pedal positions are done so for a reason.

Bye, Arno.

I wholly disagree You don't brake flat footed, and your heel always sits shorter than the ball. That OEM position with the gas being a good 40mm down isn't a factory forethought to help joe public to heel toe. https://m.youtube.co...h?v=qdWSyrqEnE4 A google image search of rally car and touring car pedal boxes will clear it up for you

^^^^ this is more likely it. as I said, a safety feature for the fat-footed.

According to the bloke doing them (who I trust knows what he's on about), they're a higher shore durometer. I've always had headaches with nolathane bushes. Work great when new, but just don't last. OEM bushes work well, and last, and if these offer a bit off extra hardness, then it'll make a nice compromise of reliability and performance :)
