so...

been slogging away at things. suspension and engine mounts now completely transferred over from the dead car (which i sold by the way, for top coin too, happy days). if i get the chance ill swap over the wheel bearings this afternoon, and see if i can drop it onto its own 4 wheels for the first time :)

meanwhile, looking at repurposing the a2a intercooler core. basic dimensions including pipe dia below
(last pic is the davies craig EWP)

and the rusty-as-fcuk fuel tank. looks worse on the outside than the inside. couldnt see any penetration (though the filler neck corner is pretty hard/impossible to see). certainly doesnt leak anywhere. going to wire brush it this morning, and hit it with some rustoleum hammertone.
thatll let me get it back up and mounted into poistion so im at least not tripping over it. need some more speedflow fittings for the intank pump though (5/16 and 3/8 QC bullshit again). loving the convoluted highflo setup... not. still, it only has to supply the surge tank, the 044 will do the rest of the work.

Rear one for the m32 is unobtainium, and the front one I've got is farked, (plus they're invariably too soft anyway). I've got to make a rear one, might as well make a better front one whilst I'm at it :)

so, made a plan and stuck to it (day off, good weather, no kids!)

stripped, wirebrushed, cleaned, rustoleum'd:

and got started on getting the rear end together, ready to drop onto the ground. Tesla Roadster uprights with 310mm rotors, swapped the OEM Tesla hubs out (with the hall-effect ABS assembly) and replaced with new SKF units. got the SSC toe link assembly half in (including new heim joint boots), replaced all the fasteners, torqued it all up :)

We have wheels! ... well the fronts anyway...

Took apart the front end (again), swapped the SKF hubs in, and refitted/retorqued all the swingarm fasteners. Refitted the upper shock mounts with OS hardened washers (the old shock mounts had bowed around the fastener heads over time). Eyeballed a dodgy wheel alignment so it will roll generally straight. Steering rack ball joint tapers pulled down a bit weird - never really hit a solid end point. They torqued ok by the numbers, but just a bit of an odd feeling, felt soft somehow. I assume it's a standard taper across the lotus range, atleast i hope so.

Camber at full droop (which isn't much) was 1.9deg both sides after torquing everything up

Great work. Seeing this I was wondering if anyone has ever built a vx/elise with a bare minimum of bodywork in a Mad Max / Rat bike style? How challenging would it be to get through an MOT?

Problem #1
SSC toe link support rod (S2 Elise) doesn't fit the VX (Turbo) subframe. I guess I took it for granted that this dimension would be the same

Well they do not look anything like the S2 TRE's from Seriously Lotus.

Those are fine as we have been testing some new products with them for the last 6 months.

Any close ups with them in situ, how much of the taper was engaged for example?

Torque applied before failure (the taper is irrelevant here)

:)
