400hp is 400hp of air regardless of it being a v8 or otherwise. RS6 V8 Turbo makes 450, so in my application it's perfect with a little headroom. TÜV frowns upon open filters, and I don't like them either. Loud, poor ambient feed capability. Quality of the filters themselves is debatable. This box for my build is a no brainer. Fits, convenient fitting locations, simple panel filter replacements, flows a shittonne.

Ironically, someone probably replaced it for 2x K&N 'intake kits' for extra horsepowers or similar mumbojumbo..

Was tidying up today (first time sans car for a while!) and kept looking at the fuel tank... so just how hard would it to be turn the unit?

Pretty farken easy. Rotated through a complete 1/3 of a rotation using the already existing arm guides built into the pump housing. Needed to coax the mounting ring with some multi grips to make the antirotation indexing bit work, but piece of cake.

Lots of room now for lazy loops of 200series (makes dropping the tank way easier too).

Ever get the feeling you're talking to yourself? *shrugs* :)

So, onto even more mundane stuff... to get the motor through TÜV it needs OEM emission gear. not 'OEM equiv/certified/aftermarket/spare parts' but actual original factory bits. so i sourced a used cat from an Astra J OPC. wasnt cheap but was assured it was all fine. lo and behold, the flexpipe infront of the cat had fisted itself sometime previously, and had managed to stuff itself into the body of the cat. there it burnt + abraded away at a few of the cells leavig the mess pictured. astoundingly all the cells are still open though, theyve been 'cleanly' damaged - it should still flow/function perfectly well.

lol, considering how it looked 18months ago, im happy enough with even the idea of driving it. That said, I did buy it for a project, not just for a car to drive. To that end, it's ticking along nicely :) M32 is a lucky-dip. This particular one is a cheap score from a wrecker. I'll get it in and running, see what the diff ratio is like, and see how things hold up. When it grenades, hopefully I'll have a bit more solid idea what I want, and can prep the next box a little to suit.

So, just for reference, this is a lotus Europa S M32 6sp shifter mechanism.

The shifter mech on the gearbox end doesn't play well with the standard lotus shifter mechanism, the L-R gate throws the wrong way. I'm remaking the gearbox actuation arm so it pulls from the other direction, but here's how lotus solved it. Basically they made a mirrored version of their standard shifter assembly. These things are rare as unicorn farts. Would've made my gearbox conversion easier if I had bought this, but for the cash, i can live without it. Nice to see how lotus did it though.

Another one in background reading mod from Spain.

I think this engine is the future. It's modern, it's powerful and it fits almost the OEM engine.

Just posting to encourage you!

By the way, do you know if will it fit stright forward with the turbo rear clam? Wich color do you have in mind?

Turbocharged direct injector variable valve timing engines like the A20NFT might be the last major iteration of modern automotive petrol engines. :(

The focus is/will shift to electric now...

Of course, I'm talking about vx220 "easy" options.

Until now I always considered the saab B207 forged and harroped as top option but on my point of view this is a massive step forward compared to B207.

Yep, the Z22SE, Z20LEx& B207 are 20 year older designs in comparison to the A20NFT.

The Z20LET stemmed from the X20XEV which in turn came from older iterations.

The days of the petrol auto engine are numbered. :(

the A20NFT is just an updated version of the z22se, just like the z20let is an updated version of the 1980s 1.8 engine

everything is an evolution, tho im genuinely appreciative that GM didnt change the block casting/mounting design, as this goes in wayyy easier than it deserves to

i tend to agree with nev too, this is likely the last major evolution of the gasoline internal combustion engine well see in cars.

for me, im torn. look, it makes the most bang in the most efficient way. and to that end, its a 'sensible choice' for a plug and play engine. it will quite literally drop in and run with the reliability of an oem engine. but theyre not home tinkerer friendly. the old tried-n-true ways of engine modding dont work (but lets be honest, theyve basically been optimised already), and you need to be a software engineer to get the fuckers to run.

i do like plain old IC engines. play with the heads and ports, play with manifolding, play with forced induction. it inevitably explodes on you though, but thats half the fun. i have a head, manifold, and M112 sitting downstairs. i will build a twincharge engine oneday still, even its its still not as good as the A20

meanwhhile 340hp should keep me in enough trouble
