yup, dummy fit everything up, and it all works, so the basic dimensions are fine. thrown on the slave cyl is a little short, so seeing as theyre making a new one anyway, ive asked them to increase the depth a few mm to give the slave a little more play room

you don't want the slave to be fully extended, I made that mistake and had to fit another slave with a bigger spacer.

I had a custom (deeper) TTV z22se M32 flywheel made once everything was working okay with the slave + spacers, no spacers are now required.

Yep, exactly. And exactly what I've told them. It'll work as is, but it's cutting things fine. I also thought about spacing the slave, but the opportunity exists to offset the flywheel a few mm, might as well take it :)

trial fitted some 997 GT3 air deflectors / brake ducts. kinda works! :)
Needs a little trimming to work with the swaybar, and to sit properly flush, but pretty damn close out of the box

I like that, would work well on the rear too I presume?

I thought cooling to the edge of the discs like this is more likely to make them warp & crack due to the temp differences across the radius?

thought about this idea when i saw them on Jons Gayman, but i also quite like Joes idea of the little ducts stucking out the undertray, something the Elise 220 cup has as well.

They're not fitted properly yet ;)

I wanted to put turning vanes behind the wheel wells, but when I saw the gt3 deflectors I realised it kindve saves me doing that, and simultaneously kills the brake air supply issue with the same simple stone. Im not convinced they're as good as proper brake ducting, but there's so little room for decent sized ductwork, im hoping this will just provide a tonne of air in the right general direction.

Once you get the car running, worth putting some wool strands in the area and installing a tiny camera and take it for a drive.

I suspect the turbulence under there is quite likely to move around in ways that are not at all apparent to the eye.

menial post-night-shift fumbling around...

Modified the GT3 deflectors to sit properly on the round suspension arm and avoid the swaybar. Use of zipties will ultimately be required. lol

Also finally got my hands on some long stainless muffler hangers. The BMW muffler is nearly a straight fit in the rear subframe, just the standard mounts don't work. So cutting disc and 5mins later, and the base for the new hangers was a go. Welded the hangers, then pulled out the blowtorch and bent them horizontal. Will bolt straight in now, neat as fcuk :)

A bit premature, but have been wondering how to run the exhaust tips... discharging into the diffuser, run a double deck diffuser and run the exhaust into the top deck (blown), or just be normal, and exit normal tips above a simple diffuser and out. *shrugs*. I'll leave that till the bodywork is done. Pointed at the ground will do for now.

That's the muffler of a M135i (or similar) right? I had a thought about one of these before if you ran an Elise-style twin exit out the rear (and avoid using a cat all together).

The standard 3" piping size and exhaust value are appealing..

Bingo :) 80mm inlet, twin 60mm (I think) outlet, one with the loud valve. The controller for the valve is some CAN linked PWM based proprietary thing that I didn't manage figure out. Going to hook up some wastegate actuator to it.

Cool. So if you rotate the muffler another 45 degrees, it will merge quite well with the cat, and the exhaust tips will come out at around 45 degrees too..

I'll let it hang though as it is... that's where it wants to settle, so no point fighting the weight. Inlets/outlets will get chop-suey'd and rewelded in due course. You could do as you describe, and it'll all align better, but you'll need some more isolation mounts to hold it against gravity.

I take it back. Rotating it does have merit, just means work... but it'll be much neater if I do, it'll give me more room for my diffuser too. Ughh, don't you're hate that... more work!

Exhaust path ended up being too short. Couldn't fit the required bends plus a flexpipe in there. So flipped the muffler around, and tilted it around 45deg. Body of the muffler actually sits better this way... and most importantly the lower curve of the muffler now forms a nice line for the diffuser.

Cat I'll run parallel to the muffler, so a little further away from the turbo outlet than planned. Hopefully still close enough to get hot enough for emissions.
