I love the GT3 body, but for some reason I feel its a bit of a shame, having gone through the effort of retaining the Vauxhall parts Engine/transmission etc. and not keeping it recognisable as a VX.

Of course it's your choice and the work you have done up to now is amazingly high quality and with efficient solutions, so I am certain it will look incredible when complete.

the main reason really i went this way was simply the aero benefit. there was so much chopping required of the VX clam, it became a silly proposition. i was doing sketches of how id mod the VX to what i wanted, and it looked progressively more and more like a GT3 anyway. doesn't matter, its just a skin. have an appropriate badge in mind for it too ;)

anyone ever had a proper look at the difference in wheelbase between an exige and a VX??

based on paper specs the wheelbase is 230 vs 233cm (so 30mm difference) but ive read elsewhere 28mm, and for some reason ive got 27mm in my head.

eyeball-o-meter/stringline just now says 30mm, but before i cut sick with the angle grinder, thought id put it to the crowd!

also, way too soon to lose that last image to a new page... so repost...

I understand your reasons and as said the GT3 looks great in my eyes. Depends how much compromise you want overall with aero I suppose. GMC badge wins you man points.

I have found a couple of sources which say 29mm, but seen everything from 22 to 30 quoted by people.

Another Sunday, another day avoiding paperwork. Chop Suey!!!!

I went with a nice round 30mm stretch. Optically the 30mm works, and I think the post-cut stingline looks pretty damn close :)

265/35/R18 NS-2R's mounted, and fit pretty well in the arches. still waiting on the spacers, so this kindve has to do for the time being. they worked out to be a bloody good pick for size i think :) keen to get them mounted, and start making proper mounts for the bodywork

fcuk me... 60mm spacers are quite something! quickly picked up some 50mm (14x1.5mm taper seat) bolts on the way home from work (went with the longest bolts possible to load spread in the alloy), and mocked things up just now... sh*t yeah!

Final offset at the back now ET-25 running on 10” and I think the tyre offset to the bodywork is spot on for purpose. so yeah, 120mm more rear track in total :)

Thought about it, but want to keep the car registerable. I’m walking a very fine line already, and spacing the subframe would be the final nail in the coffin. 30mm compared to the Exige is already a little in the right direction :)

Spacers - yep they’re big, but they’re TÜV certified, so very reassuring.

How do the spacers affect the loads on the wheel bearings?

Yep, plus I’ve confired with the spacer guys (local German engineering co) that the suspension and chassis have been previously certified with TÜV up to an ET of -25 and cleared for road use/registration in that configuration. The actual physical certificate itself cost €250 to own, but the fact is that it exists, meaning the chassis has actually been tested at some point by TÜV and has met requirements at that specified offset

That's some spacer! Mind you, how else would you fill those arches? The GT3 looks awesome. What your colour scheme?

Deep-dish wheels with a -25ET would work too.

But those would likely need to be a custom jobbie and that tends to get expensive rapidly and possibly give TUV issues with not being a known 'road' wheel.

For something like these would do fine if you don't want spacers:

I know some Elise guys that ran GT3 clams used these types of wheels to get it wide enough.

Extremely light though...

Bye, Arno.

and realistically, an ET-25 wheel will have pretty much the equivalent of that spacer simply integrated into the hub of the wheel casting/forging. i personally dont see any significant disadvantage of the spacer, particularly as its a tested and certified material/design. they dont sate the actualy material spec, but i wouldnt be surprised if its 7075 or similar.

deep dish and a big ET would also obviously work too, but as you say thats $$$$$$. ill get this (relatively cheap!) setup running and working for now, and if it makes sense in the future, i can always change the wheel setup - nothing is permanent/irreversible here :)
