Wow that's some serious corrosion for such a short time!

Its actually 6.5 years old (not 5..), and some parts have 08 stamped on them.
the brackets are bad as they sit in a build up of mud and grime in the wheel arch.
The lovely thing about it, is that there is very little on it to corrode. The wishbones are gorgeous.

Yeah, thinking about it, given it has carpet inner arch liners that hold the water against the bracketry, I'm almost surprised they don't have a plastic layer to keep moisture on the wheelside and stop it wicking through to the inner side, but given everything else... it's little more than "almost" surprised

The whole thing is only just above kit-car levels of sophistication.
I actually think the VX is better thought through. But then again, evora was 18 months in the design phase (and clearly continued to be improved in production, evidenced by the number of part numbers succeeded with a,b,c,d,e and so on). I wonder if lotus has to get GM sign off which might have been harder than their own internal stakeholders.
The evora is an order of magnitude more complicated, though the general way lotus builds cars hasn't really changed. there is just more stuff on the evora.

I spoke to one of the people that worked at Lotus when the vx was being designed/produced and he made it very clear that the requirements from GM in terms of quality were a significant step above what they were used to. There were GM people at the lotus factory to oversee and approve the 'vx project' at every step.
Presumably this oversight & rigour helped the S2 Elise chassis/design be the enduring success it is today (although I'm pretty certain that no one on SELOC would ever admit it).
PS - lovely car. I'm generally not a fan of black wheels but they really work well on the Evora.

We were told during training that there were over 50 GM quality control employees based at Hethel & that this wasn't enough during early production! Did hear a few tails about some of first cars to arrive at dealerships too.I spoke to one of the people that worked at Lotus when the vx was being designed/produced and he made it very clear that the requirements from GM in terms of quality were a significant step above what they were used to. That place looks familiar JG! All knocked down now with luxury flats going up, quite weird when I walked past a couple of weeks ago. In fact the Debenhams opposite closed in Febuary the whole arcade is now empty & about to be redeveloped.
