And thats the thing that confuses me lots... Why would Scotland not want to be "run" by London, yet be happy to be "run" by Brussles at MASSIVE cost?

Or have I missed something?

because when Scotland eventually does decide to leave the UK (after equally being mis-informed about pros and cons), they can at least get a bail out/subsidies from the EU..

Ahh, the new Greece, only less near the nasty bits of the world

I'm a great believer that the world should stick together. One day we will have a global union and people will be more equal wherever they are born. So leaving the European Union in my opinion is a backward step for humanity.

I agree in principle but the governing body needs to be more transparent and democratic to make it work than what we have in the EU today so I see this as a step towards that eutopia rather than away.

But we are stuck together, in something called the world/earth... I always saw the EU as an "exclusive club" for countries with similar culture, similar economic stability, similar outlook, similar governance?  If you invite everybody into your "exclusive club" then you negate it all together.  How the hell inviting Turkey into the EU is a good thing I will never ever know.

My sentiments I am old enough to remember us joining and we were sold a dream (lie) of joining an exclusive group of equal minded traders equal in wealth outlook and culture where all taxes and costs would be level throughout it's not turned out that way as we now have anyone in who contribute nothing and take everything and before anyone critiques my opinion my future daughter in law is polish who came here paid for her university education and got a job she didn't come here expecting cash and a council house then go out intimidating the locals There is a reason Sweden now has the highest reported rapes and it isn't the Swedish population doing it

That has been tried before, The European Free Trade Area kicked off just after the EU and included both Norway and the UK.  It did well at first but after a few years lost impetus which prompted several member states to leave to join the EU, including the UK.  Other countries to have left EFTA are Austria, Denmark, Finland, Portugal, and Sweden leaving only Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and, of course, Norway.  Norway has twice tried, in 1973 and 1995, to join the EU but on both occasions the government of the day held a referendum and lost the vote forcing abandonment of the application.  Iceland has applied to be admitted to the EU but the application has been stalled since 2013.  It seems that most nations who have tried the alternative bloc route think they will be better off in the EU than out.

On the contrary I have read Animal Farm, I think my eutopia would be where everyone would have equal opportunities from birth and accept people have different views/beliefs. That's very different to Hitler and ISIS who wish to force there ways onto others. This part normally upsets people... I also believe inheritance should be banned as I don't think it's right that one person can struggle to eat yet another has a silver plate and a red carpet. The poor and rich divide hurts the common person, inheritance compounds this divide over multiple generations.

So when you fall Off this slab of rock you want the non elected leaders to have all your cash and belongings to divide up ? And not pass any of your hard earned savings or property onto the wife or kids 😡

The EU parliament (the law making part) is elected. We elect our MEPs every five years.

Wife yes, kids no I'm afraid. Not popular I know as it's in our nature to look after our own. But this very nature is the reason I'm not proud to be human as there is so much suffering in the world. People need to spend all their money to keep the economy circulating. I'm not talking small sums of inheritance like less than £50k, I am talking about big bucks where kids are born into wealth and hang onto it. For every rich person there as to be many more poor people. I will never be rich for this reason, I would rather give it away.

It's those figures that disappoint me. But getting out or staying in the European Union won't change that I'm afraid. A change in morales will. Staying in the European Union makes it easier for people from poorer countries to move to richer countries which I'm all for. I'm fortunate enough to be born into a rich country but I'm no more deserving than those who are born into poor countries.

The EU parliament (the law making part) is elected. We elect our MEPs every five years.

That is done by the unelected EU Commission.

"The European Commission (EC) is the executive body of the European Union responsible for proposing legislation, implementing decisions, upholding the EU treaties and managing the day-to-day business of the EU."

..the Uk is not a rich country though.....we borrow £billions of pounds..a vast amount of it then being given away to Brussels and "good causes"...

..and define what is different between rich and poor...  a shepherd in the middle of Africa who has enough money/goats or tree berries to eat and drink is no different than you and I who have enough money to go to Tesco's..just a different world.

Until Tv's and mobile phones came along and do gooders saying "our way" is best, no one knew any different.

...time to agree to disagree me thinks.. (and yes I attempt each year to "give away" approx 10% of my income or time to causes that I believe are deserving)

and it is stiil a big OUT OUT OUT for me....

It still is if your name is Buffet or Gates and all the others part of The Giving Pledge that have committed to giving away at least half of their fortunes to worthy causes.
