Gen 2 are a lot more reliable for sure but the spec makes a lot of difference and I wouldnt buy any Porsche without Chrono especially coming from a VX. I'm not trying too hard with the one of mine as I say I'm using it myself at the moment having just sold my Cayman. I'm on the lookout for a nice 911 at the moment but they are even harder to find with decent spec.

Also if the gen 2 continues to be reliable I'm guessing it will hold it's value better than the gen 1 and 986 Boxster which are very cheap. Probably too cheap for what you're getting but engine rebuild costs put most people - including myself - off the car which must hurt values.

gen 1 is a bargain , get over to http://www.boxa.net/forum some inspiration http://www.boxa.net/...-rescuing-a-25/

I may still pay you a visit Saturday as I do like yours and the one with 23k miles sold yesterday. I only liked that because it looked like new.

Hopefully I will drive one soon, there is one local to me for sale but the owner did not do any corners fast or take it much above 6k rpm so I can't comment too much. The Boxster S was kind of like a VX220 but softer with a bit more roll, that's with PASM on sport. Getting in the Porsche was by far the easiest but the BMW feels more glove like and special inside.

If you want a car that handles well/can be made to handle well you could do a lot worse than this

Low mileage, factory warranty. Its not all about power

I would rather a VX220. If I got an MX5 I would get the new one. It's not all about power and I do love a car that handles, round a track this is number 1 but at the moment I fancy something with 300 ish BHP.

Sir Humphrey Appleby would probably say "that the precise correlation between the information you communicated ie "kind of like" and the facts insofar as they can be determined and demonstrated is such as to cause epistemological problems of sufficient magnitude as to lay upon the logical and semantic resources of the English language a heavier burden than they can reasonably be expected to bear. Just saying ...

The top gear lap times are very much in favour of the Z4M if you're interested in track capabilities.. Lap times don't lie even if it's more of a handful round the bends.

Z4M is a bit different beast they make more power for starters. They ride and handle nowhere near as good as the boxster but they have LSD standard and brakes from the csl so a bit better than normal m brakes. The M will cost more to run and they are a bit thirstier. They are quite evenly matched cars overall I would say.

They have CSL brakes as standard? I thought that was something people added aftermarket or am I getting mixed up with something else. My VX220 get 11mpg on track. Boxster s gets 11mpg Z4M gets 9 mpg

The front brake setup is lifted straight from the CSL. I did a trackday at cadwell with no fade (I do drive like a bit of a whimp though!)

That sounds good, I was under the impression they where single pot chocolate calipers with bubblegum pads as standard :) What made you drive more carefully than normal?

Ah, I see. To be honest that's not far off how much it would cost to buy a VX220, suspension refresh it, nitrons, td wheels, AD08 tyres and stage two supercharger.. Sounds like a bargain ;) Although I'm sure that would make an awesome track car. What would you rather have if you were after outright fun and reliable motoring?

I forgot to allow some money for the physiotherapist and brain surgeon for all the times I've hurt myself getting into that car.. Especially in the slippery wet.

I have to confess to being a Porsche convert these days. I've had a couple of Z4Ms My main gripe with the Z4 is that the Roadster is way floppier than the coupe they drive like two completely different cars. The coupe is so much better than the roadster its quite a stark difference. Hence the coupe is more expensive.

Porsche being Porsche mange to lop the roof off the Boxster and it doesnt make a lot of difference over a Cayman. The Porsche steers better and has better feel the Z4 is known for its artificial steering so it will hold your attention a lot longer. Z4M is brilliant fun for sliding about in the bad conditions.
