There is some truth there, but I can't see the build cost of the aluminium tub to be that cheap, especially in comparison to the steel chassis of other marques. If it was remotely comparable, some other manufacturers would have adopted it (I know AML have) for their sports models.

You're starting to put me off now! I'll see if the VX shifts and take it from there. If you get rid of the Z let me know. I could even offer you another VX in P/X if you wanted :) Cheers

What colour is your VX220?

Silver my favorite, yellow second :) I've taken a deposit for mine today and feel rather empty about it.

YL03XXY? Has the cam chain been done, is the suspension original?

Yup that's the one. The suspension is GAZ coilovers. Damping and height adjustable. Can chain not done - I was told the chain had a revised feed from 2003 onwards. I've not heard any untoward noises so not felt the need to do. Think my favourite colour for them is red!

I thought it looked lower. I've just realised where you are, that's far. Also I think I will try and give the Z4M more of a chance and if not I will probably wait until I find a silver one with dark red leather, just seem to like the look of them more. Yours is still very nice though, you seem to have taken good care of it.

Haha yea distance I think is the only thing stopping it from shifting to be honest. It's in good nic and has a few previous owners from here who seemed to take car of her as well! Saw yours sold pretty quickly - congrats!

Gaffer - I picked up a Z4M Roadster today off the owners club. I'll be honest, I bloody love it. Love the VX too but unfortunately only can justify one toy! Have you got Eibach springs? This one has then and I think the ride is OK - better than my VX on coils but still bloody firm.

Glad you like it! :) No, the suspension is standard but I've got porsche 996 brakes all round and performance engine mounts. I've not tried these cars with different suspension but I hear Eibach springs are good.

I remember you had updated brakes but couldn't recall you had springs or not. I'm quite impressed with them, apparently they Dolby snap as often as OEM ones so the guy before me changed them when his rear springs snapped for the third time!!

I took a look at mine on Saturday and they do look rusty. Still struggling to gel with the car, it's awesome but for some reason I just don't find it as fun as the VX220.

Regarding the cam chain, mine was an 53 plate and the cam chain was very loose when Vocky replaced it at 98,000 miles ish.

Click this image to see how wobbly it was. Also the car drove better following the new chain.

Something to dislike about Porsche brake calipers on the Z4M... The bleed nipples are £19.20 each and there are eight of them! Thought I would change them during my brake fluid change as they're a little rusty expecting £30 at the most for a set, not £153 plus shipping for a set!!!!!!

Another fun little drifting session at Woodbridge over the weekend. Got through a new set of rear tyres in 60 miles though!

Despite the fun I'm really starting to miss the VX220.

Glad you're having some fun with it! What tyres you running? I recon I might change mine in a few months. On Vred's just now which are great, but not sure if I'll go same again or bang some Michelin's on next time. I'm loving the Z4 to be honest, although I do miss the pedals from the VX. Finding it hard to get my shifts just right with the spacing and depths of the BMW's offering. Might just take some more practice though!

I'm having the same trouble as you with the pedals. I definitely miss the VX220 and thinking of going back to one when I've worn my new brake pads out. It had Michelin Super Sports all round but I have temporarily swapped the rears for the cheapest I could find for some sideways stuff. Got quite good by the end of the day, the video was from about halfway through my practice, the Marshall told me to have less angle please which I took as a compliment :)

Oh and if it helps, to be honest I can't tell much difference between the super sports and the cheapest accerla or something. Don't know if that's because I'm not a good enough driver but both tyres seem fairly progressive and easy to handle on the limit.

Glad it's not just me with the pedals! If you're regularly doing track days I could see the Z4 costing a fortune in consumables. Would you sell the Z to get back into a VX?

Well I got through two rear tyres in 60 miles of track time but I was going sideways at every opportunity. I'm going to Snetterton soon, I'll see what the tyre wear is like without drifting. I would sell it to go back to a VX220 or a 111R. If it's a VX220 it will have to be a silver NA, I'm not fussed at the moment if it's supercharged or got ITBs because going faster in a straight line isn't adding to th the fun on a track day. I would like something with a suspension refresh and maybe 340r geo with decent wheels. Also, I will have an uprated heater and I'll find a way to fit heated seats. It was two winters and a bad back that drove me away from the VX220. My girlfriend had to use a blanket.
