Heya fellas,

just looking at what off-the-shelf cages are available... and cant get a straight answer...

would a cage for an S2/Toyota Chassis, and specifically the rear legs, fit a VX?

the rear legs have integrated suspension pickup support, so it'd need to be a 1:1 match in order to fit

thoughts?

I'll have a Toyota subframe here soon Ed & will be able to see hem side by side but I did think the only difference between the two was the position & composition of the cross beam matey

There are no cages available off the shelf. Safety devices wiill make one to order for around £1100. At this time of the year the lead time will probably be around 3 months. When I ordered mine at a quiet time ie. not just before the start of a race season, the lead time was 2 months.

Yep just checked Ed & the damper mounts are further back on the VX (should have realised given the extended wheelbase over the Lotus) ;)

yeah, i was hedging that way (re longer wheelbase) but was wondering if the shock still happened to sit in the same spot regardless.

obviously not... blöd

phil, does the VX otherwise look the same as the Toyo?

ie... just get the guys to jig the same mount just 28mm (or whatever it is?) further back

whats the car going to be used for? Will it be able to get approval here if used for racing. Do they replace the roll bar too, this is needed on the vx unlike an s2

I would imagine that when you have the middle feet lined up with the roll bar mounts (in the corner behind the seats) the front feet dont line up/reach the beam??

It was the diagonal rear bars, miles out at the subframe

I think we both realised, without saying a word, that it was the end of your vx :(

Just a side-note.. That picture is of a very oddball car.

This looks like a Rover Elise S2 ali chassis (various attachments are for Rover-engine based ancillaries) that seems to have been chopped and different bits welded/attached onto to graft a toyota rear subframe onto it.. Perhaps for a race series where they wanted to keep an existing river-based chassis/car (perhaps to keep the OEM non-assisted brakes?) and fit a Toyota engine?

Bye, Arno.

no idea about that specific one, but the finished jigs for the cage are standard S2 toyota

wouldnt be a big step to adjust the jig for the longer step back to the vx shocks, but i suspect it would simpler to rock up with the chassis, and say - "here, make it fit"

whether i can be fcuked though, is the question. I dont need a 'speccd' cage, i just want something a bit better than what there (stupid goddamn cutouts in the bar?? wtf?!), plus throw in a diagonal, and a harness bar
