Following a leakdown test I was told the rings haven't bedded hence losing so much oil, so got to start again.

After driving the 2.0 I must say they feel gutless and think Martin should go 2.2 but before you buy any parts get the bores checked

It will need reboring/honing anyway for new rings if you're doing it properly

This, sell the saab for whatever you can get, bite the bullet and just buy a factory 2.2, shove it in and have another 8 years of enjoyment.

How on earth is going back to a Z22 going to be any cheaper now? if this was a bedding in procedure (which I'm not convinced about) it shouldn't matter what engine he's using.

Martin, part numbers are same as Z22SE. Best approach is to go to a Vauxhall dealer and provide them your reg when asking for the parts.

Are they exactly the same as the Z22SE! All the bits I need?

Are there better rings that could go in!

It's not about cheap, it's about getting tbe car back to how he likes it and use and enjoy it hence I said cut your losses. I may be wrong g but I don't think Martin is a 19 year old running it on a fiver.

I've got pistons/ rings which covered 1000miles and are like new (sold as seen mind ;) ). Plus a new set of head bolts that I thought I'd lost before my engine build.

Reboring no but honing yes to help them bed in properly.

It'll be interesting to measure the ring gaps on the 2 bad cylinders to see if they differ from the other 2.

Sutol is never going to use his motor, just swap it and sell the rest. Saab heads go for good money for z22se people looking to upgrade.

not the point. Martin's had a cat failure from day 1 with this engine which likely caused the internal damage. He hasn't had a chance to see what it's like when everything is healthy.

The B207 = GM LSJ = Z20NET; all basically the same engine block as the Z22SE (with a different crank throw and piston/rod height)

Bolts etc. are all the same. => http://www.speedster...gine/index.html

And as said; buy the Mahle/Perfect Circle rings
