My cat failure happened I believe after the conversion as it was running very rich on the dutch software and it only failed when after 800 miles when  I first started to boot it properly.

Car was run in as I was told to, gently for first 500 miles on mineral oil etc to bed in the cams, but everything I've read since suggest a harder running in period for rings.

My first journey back was over 100 miles, slowly in heavy queues on the hottest day with the car spewing over litres of oil out on the way home, none of this can have helped.

We will never know why the rings didn't bed in properly but there are plenty of possible reasons, but they're all irrelevant now, I just need to get it sorted out so I can use my car again.

Despite copious amounts of cash and time and help by some good people Its effectively been of little use since the engine went in last July.

It'll be okay in the end, Martin. At least you haven't totalled all of the expensive internals, like I did on my first upgraded engine, before having to start all over again. :beat:

It's just a pain in the arse/wallet that so many of the parts holding the engine together are one use only bits that need to be replaced every time the engine is opened.

Are they exactly the same as the Z22SE! All the bits I need? Are there better rings that could go in!     Martin S

The B207 = GM LSJ = Z20NET; all basically the same engine block as the Z22SE (with a different crank throw and piston/rod height) Bolts etc. are all the same. => http://www.speedster...gine/index.html   And as said; buy the Mahle/Perfect Circle rings
Do you know where from that isn't a us supplier?

How on earth is going back to a Z22 going to be any cheaper now? if this was a bedding in procedure (which I'm not convinced about) it shouldn't matter what engine he's using.

It's not about cheap, it's about getting tbe car back to how he likes it and use and enjoy it hence I said cut your losses. I may be wrong g but I don't think Martin is a 19 year old running it on a fiver.
not the point. Martin's had a cat failure from day 1 with this engine which likely caused the internal damage. He hasn't had a chance to see what it's like when everything is healthy.
It is the point because I know he is utterly pissed off with the whole saab thing, just wants to use his car, wishes he had just done a straight like for like swap and always was perfectly satisfied with the 2.2

The ups and downs and joys of it all.

Just keep thinking nearly there and nearly am. I think, I hope.
