Much more OEM looking with the revised set up allowing standard bootlid to fit.

I like how you quickly glossed over the fact you've fitted a sequential shifter. Is there any kind of traction control fitted?

I've got the Racetcs system fitted, seems to work well.

Are the 4 buttons on the steering wheel (or scheduled to be) hooked up to something?

Most of them do something, the 2 on the left are for datalogging, i have a spare one on the right and the other is to overide the boost setting.

I thought I'd do another update, it's been a crap year but the only bonus is I've had plenty of time to work on the VX.
As I had plenty of time during the first lockdown I decided to fit a roll cage, got to say it's made a big difference and stiffened the whole car up.

The next thing I did was replace all the uprights to alloy ones and fit a bigger set of discs to the rear.
The front uprights I purchased in a group buy and the rears I got second hand from a fellow forum member, this made it possible to lower my car 30mm without any adverse effects to the handling. Very pleased with the ride height but not so clever over speed humps.

I've got to say I was glad I bought a trailer at the beginning of this year.
First track day at oulton park I managed to shatter a outer cv.
3rd track day at Anglesey I had a fault on my tps sensor which caused a misfire, this lifted the head and took out the rings on no. 3 cylinder.
As it was the national at croft 2 weeks later I decided to re torque the head studs and see how it went, I hadn't realised the rings had gone at this stage. But I enjoyed the national and managed to get over half a day of track time on 3 and a half cylinders and 2 litres of oil

My final job of this year was to rebuild my engine after the sensor fault, whilst I was doing it I took the chance to switch to a new twin scroll exhaust housing on my turbo to get the power in earlier, this has been very successful as it's now on full boost from just below 4k and all the way to 8k.
Whilst I had the gearbox out I decided to change my lsd to a new kaaz unit, but during the strip down I realised I'd destroyed a full set of synchros in just over a year with the SQS shifter. This forced me to take the plunge and build a straight cut dog box, no synchros no issues! Got to say the noise that comes from a straight cut gearbox is surprisingly loud, but I no longer hear any of the other clanking noises you get from a VX

This is a fantastic car with various unique developments.
You deserve loads of credit for both going your own way and getting great results.
I look forward to getting a good look around it sometime.

Sadly, because your car is unique, these days it will be largely ignored here. Like most social media this forum suffers from a another type of herd immunity.

Did you design the cage or is it an Elise item?
I was also surprised how much a cage improved the feel of the VX, better still with the floppy screen surround fixed to the cage.

I adore the slightly demonic sound of a straight cut gearbox.
For three years at college my everyday car was a heavily modified orange Sunbeam Stiletto with a Renault 5 Turbo 2 engine in the tail and its original straight cut box (diff turned upside down). I did 50000 untroubled miles in that car. Everybody admired the car except girlfriends who hated it, especially Helen Paterson who’s dress caught fire on the way to a party in Southampton. I still remember patting out her flames on the side of the A34. Safe to say she was still smouldering for the rest of the weekend :-). Fun times.

Thanks for that, I enjoy the challenge of doing something different and having a unique one off car. It will always be hated by the purists :-)

I was also surprised about how much difference the cage made, I never realised how much the car twisted in corners. The cage was originally made for a vx220 and then I modified it to fit my application. Also since fitting it, the rear subframe has stopped cracking.

The straight cut gearbox is an acquired taste, but the clutchless full throttle gearchanges are amazing and on a bonus side I no longer hear any of the other rattles these cars make.

I´ve totally missed this build over the years. 

Really great. Even if seems getting out of hand lately. ;-)

I always thought this was a very, very stiff chassi but you mean that i could be even stiffer. 

Would love to hear it on a video as well.

I was very surprised by how much difference the cage made, I always thought it was a very stiff chassis till I drove it after fitting the cage.

When I was at uni we used to have an obsession with Jap power (probably cause they were cheap). My housemate had a MR2 turbo another a Celica GT4 (if only he still had it, they used to be cheap!) and I had a supra (the really old one, not the good one). Had hours of fun building 3S-GTE engines with dustbin sized turbos. It was a shame the MR2 was horrible to drive and felt numb in the corners. Glad to see this great engine in an amazing chassis.
