Nev you are correct on power / effort side of things but sense of occasion both the oem engines don't do much in fact 4pots in general while very effective lack in the noise area I need both occasion and fast 😁 lol DG

No shortage of noise in mine, it's the most intimidating thing about Nipper! A local Z22 owner saw me simply move Nipper up the drive into my garage the other week and commented on how angry he sounds. Also revving to 8000 and above gives that racecar "whir" that you just don't get in lazy V6 and V8s.

I would imagine Vockys (and other ITB) cars sounds rather nice too. There are some simple changes you can do to the primary headers if you want burble from the Z22, just work out the freq of cylinder firing and make the headers vary in length to appropriately. There are some maths you can use on the interweb to calculate it. There was a good video of some Scandy guy who did this, though I can't find it ATM.

I guess it's not the same sound as a V6 or V8 when you are sitting at the traffic lights, but who cares once you are driving, what counts in a sports car is how much faster you are than the guy next to you, not who can play musical tunes. I've met people on the road before, trying to show off by revving their engines with the clutch pressed so I can hear it. Once a gap in the traffic opens up though, it must leave a pretty sour taste in their mouth when you fly past them and they can't keep up.

There's many things you can do to make a 4-pot noisier and sound more like an BTCC engine, but they'll never match the sound and sense of occasion of a decent V6 / V8 / V12 engine IMO.. Depends whether you want racecar (efficient 4-pot) or sportscar.

Exactly this I love a decent 4 pot but as stated it will never match a v6, v8 etc Imagine your car with a non lazy high reving v8 twin turbo.......😊 DG

How about 3.2 busso taken to 3.7/3.8 on throttle bodies , I'm no Alfa lover and I fix them all day long but that would be one hell of an engine

Your not allowed to do a V6 conversion because mine will be the only one when its finished

Really - it would really surprise me if no-one had ever done this? Wouldn't the V6 from the exige be a suitable engine to fit in a VX?
