Brilliant that someone has managed to make these but I personally think its expensive for what there asking for it. Lotus was bad enough but these are nearly 4 times the price of lotus part.

I won't deny that the price is "high". Actually it is rather cheap for handmade products like this. It took many hours to come this replacement relay and even programming/ building/preparing/testing one takes around 2 hours in the current layout. It is not my intension to get rich from this, but to help out others to keep their car running. It has to cover some of the costs and time it takes from me. And it must be fun to built these.... as long as I have fun there will be new stock. Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-N910F met Tapatalk

I'd say that was cheap/great value for a diy answer to a problem that had no answer... Nice work Richard.

I agree cheap if you have a car that won't start

For those not into our relays, the grey and brown one are from a range rover, and p*ss cheap to come at.

The yellow one is a custom one for our vx/speedster and the S2 also i believe. The yellow one was the most expensive one of the set. https://www.ersatzte...14::231752.html

It has been out of stock for over a year now. Either rewire your setup for it to take a grey one (Ask Vocky), and tell your passenger never to touch the start button while the engine is running, or get this one.

I agree re top effort. Thanks for doing this Richard and hopefully your work will keep many VX/Speedsters on the go for years to come.

To those that are remarking re the price - it's funny, but in these days of mass produced cheapness I think people have truly forgotten just how much time, effort, skill, and perseverance is needed to make something.like this from scratch.

If there is any stock left after xmas I'm buying one, just in case, as stuff like this will  be harder and harder to get and will be essential to keep the cars going.

Thanks for this Richard. Top job.

Congrats on reproducing them :D

ps: bespoke components are always going to be more expensive than mass produced parts

pps: I prefer the rewire and standard relay approach :P

Vocky, do you know if the ignition barrel has what's needed to connect an extra wire to it and make it work as a "normal" ignition lock? That way one could get rid of the stupid starter button and start the engine with the key instead, and also replace the troublesome yellow relay with a standard starter relay (like you seem to have done).

the ignition switch is a standard Corsa B item. On the vx220 / speedster there is no wiring for the 'start' position.

The starter button is wired as a 'negative' and the ignition switch is a 'positive', so you would need to add another relay.

A simple circuit, connect the original starter button wires to 30 and 87, use the negative wire to also connect to 85 (one of the two wires will be a solid negative) and then run the wire from 86 to the ignition switch 'start' position.

You would also have to rewire the yellow relay base to accept a grey relay

Hello, my name is Adrian. I work for Bell & Colvill who operate the DeRoure web site.

We've been trying to get these relays for some of you guys for some time now but they have been on back order for ages. For those who did not know, Elise-Shop bought from Bell & Colvill until they switched to direct supply from Lotus.

I've tried getting in contact with Meta but without much luck so far, Lotus are prepared to carry a stock of these relays if I find somewhere for them to purchase them from.

Thanks
