What's the emissions like? Does it really need a cat for testing purposes?

Yes thats the standard stuff - uprated toe links, 10.9 and 12.9 bolts.

You don't want to snap them while doing 200 km/h through Ostkurve (that's a massive 2.4g)

Emission class is EURO-5.

You don't need a Cat at all  :D but what do you mean by "testing purposes"?

Good to hear on the emissions..

The UK MoT requires a cat to be present, or at least something that resembles a cat.. Therefore fitting a decat section that sort of resembles a cat is probably ok for us! Not that you can actually see much with the diffuser / undertrays anyway! :D

In the UK, I think its just the Astra J VXR, and the Insignia SRI (I think - these only make ~220bhp, so not 100% its exactly the same engine / turbo).

Not many used engines about, and those on fleabay are about the same price as new injun!

Astra J vxr has 275 bhp as standard thumbsup

And a stage 1 remap gives 310 bhp :D

In the stock Astra (with its long and thin 2.5" exhaust including 2 Cats!!) your right, it's "only" 280 hp.

But actually my A20NFT made 315 hp out of the box with the tables untouched.

Only differences: I have no balancers, no mechanical waterpump, small aluminium crankpulley, short belt, aluminium Flywheel, bigger intake piping and much bigger and shorter exhaust.

Freeing up some extra unicorns mechanically.

Regarding Emissions: The latest version of the engine is called B20NFT, basicly the same but EURO-6 Emission class.

I don't really know about the differences, or if it's only software update.

Not that interested in emissions because in Germany they don't give you the better emissions class of the engine you put in, but only the best class the vehicle ever had (so they entered EURO-4).

6" PWR Barrel, the charge air pipe sizes constantly increase from 50mm at the turbocharger outlet to 60mm (connection pipe) up to 76mm IC up to 80mm at the throtle body.

pro alloy pre rad in the front. EWP is a davis craig ewp115 alloy.

not the best choice as an IC pump but I had it lying around.

im also planning on running an EWP115 (the plastic one though, not alloy)

any reason you think its not a good choice? seems the best high flow, low pressure pump I can find for reasonable money (im currently working in Australia, and the DC EWP pumps are MUCH cheaper here @ ~85 pounds)

I've been waiting for someone to do this engine for a while now. I always thought of it as a good replacement for ours.

The electronics have always scared me off though, and the reason I'd probably chicken out and go with an LEH engine.

Same you don't have any build pics. It'd have been really interesting to follow your build.

What's wiring compatibility like? Or are we talking bespoke loom and interfaces for the clocks?

Dominik is helping with my build, so if youre keen on detailed build pics etc, ill be documenting it as I go in my thread

(youll need to put up with random rants about other crap though, as the whole car is getting rebuilt)

The ECU uses CAN (at least, the LNF variant does), which makes it too much of a hassle/problem for a home project guy like me. I'd love to know how to get around this as it'd make a fantastic engine otherwise

Yep, I'm certainly following your project. Hopefully you'll document your ECU solutions _very_ closely ;)
