Hello people.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a good (but not too expensive!!) data logging system?  I record video on an old GoPro and have a decent OBD reader with Bluetooth, and an iPhone 6S.  I'd love to sync the data up with video if possible but that may be a big task..?

Cheers

Ian

Thank you Chaps.  Sounds like Harrys Lap Time with GPS - one question though... How to mount the iPhone securely (cameras need to be on something solid, not suction holder..) I have a harness bar that my GoPro holder fits onto, maybe there's something similar for a phone?

Has anyone managed to get racechrono working with racerender (or similar)? I captured some racechrono data today but the file is a .RCZ and I can't figure out how to convert to something racerender will recognise... Thanks

I'm a bit sparse on lap data as I only got the external GPS late last year. The internal phone ones are all over the place!

Should be able to add a few this year : Bedford (maybe), Spa (maybe), Rockingham, Zandvoort.

I've done it in the past. RaceRender should just read the .rcz file straight off, unless something has changed with the structure of the file (which given how many updates there's been recently is possible).

Can't you export/import as .csv ?

What did you record the video on? You could always import that onto your phone and load it into RaceChrono, synch it to the data and export it with the RaceChrono data overlay on, if that's what you are trying to achieve. The RaceChrono interface gets shittier with every iteration and the feature bloat, so another possibility is to export the data as Race Logic Circuit Tools file (.vbo) and that too should be directly readable by RaceRender.

Sorry, just fired up my RaceRender and dug out the last GoPro/RaceChrono combo I did with a custom overlay and the data file I imported was apparently a .csv file according to the settings.

P.S. This may all be dependent on you having the paid for RaceChrono Pro and not the freebie. I think part of the Pro upgrade was enhanced export options.

I have the freebie version. Maybe I need to upgrade. It's annoying as the old (free) version of racechrono would allow export of a CSV. Video is from a gopro so with the pro version I could import to racechrono. I only got one session without a passenger and the battery in the camera died after 10 mins anyway so I may just forget it and use something else next time to log the data...

I'm not sure what the free version supports/doesn't support as I've had the Pro version since (actually before) it was released and can't see any upgrade options you might see. I know there's definitely increased export options in Pro but it might possibly be needed to import the GoPro video and combine with the data. Checkout the developers how-to video on how to do some of the video trickery. http://www.racechrono.com/news/?p=480 The whole mess of options that it is now is why I stopped using it and use a proper standalone datalogger now.

Very helpful, thank you! I've just upgraded to the pro version for a free 7 day trial and can now export as CSV.
