Hi Guys and Gals. I'm all out of gaskets for the money out. I'm having some made from rubberised Cork, which I'm assured by the manufacturer will be more than suitable. I'm mentioning this to you good people because just in case you want some. You can have a pair for £4 by my reckoning. The more people want the cheaper they get. Let me know if your interested. You stay classy!

It might be worth getting half a dozen made first and trying them out

the main issue I can forsee with using rubberised cork is that when you tighten up the oil filter housing the gaskets will probably 'spread', the OEM are metal and don't suffer from this problem.

I have been testing quite a few of these out on the race car over the past ten months at the request of someone who will be retailing them. Amongst others were aluminum with ptfe coating and a metal mesh with a graphite coating in different thicknesses. The ones that sealed best and didn't drag on tightening were 1mm metal mesh reinforced graphite and, I believe, this is what they are going with. I really can't see rubberised cork being up to the job

The ones I've been selling for a while are graphite rings. Well over a hundred pairs on and only one leak (I'm aware of) which was due to a manufacturing issue. The only downside to graphite is it can be a little fragile when fitting compared to the original Metal rings - once in place they are fine though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Having just had the cork ones fitted, and now standing in a pool of oil - I wouldn't suggest using them

The look of it appears Vocky was correct about the 'spread

Yep, the joy of hindsight - although I just asked the garage for a filter and oil change and they found the cork ones

We ave had the first batch of the ones 5oclock has track tested. Will report back when either Chris or I have fitted them to our own car. We still have sone originals to lean on at the moment if needed.

Not easily I would guess, the lip of the filter pocket is quite narrow and I don't think it could be done in situ.  Anyway, is it really worth removing the engine to do this when there are gaskets available which work well?  A lifetime of gaskets costs rather less too!!
