Forgive me if im thick. So insurance co pay you £25k the value you put on it. You give them back £5500 and sell it on for more than £5500. You end up with more than the value you insured it for?? For once i feel sorry for insurance company! Forgive me if im completely wrong.

Insurance companies are completely aware of that. Salvage yards only survive because they make a profit. Insurance companies insure against a market value or in this case, perhaps an agreed value. Peter pays an insurance premium & probably a big track day excess, usually 10% or more. If he makes money on his car, that's perfectly okay.

However, I do think once repaired & being a CAT C, it will be worth 20% less. If I was buying it as a future investment, well, I just wouldn't. But, to someone who wants to brag about having a VXR, then it may be worth every penny.

Buy it back for £5.5k, put £4-5k in it and sell for £16-18k I guarantee some of the usual have already pm'd Peter. If I wasn't about to spend 5 of the next 6 months out the country I'd be interested.

Hmmm, difficult to price given its a VXR, but that seems a little strong for a Cat C - more like £13-15k...

As noted above by someone, I think the 'special-edition-ness' will be kinda worn off as its a Cat C for some.

For some, you only need one buyer. It depends on what's on the market. If the insurance is happy to value that at £25k it's where the prices are looking to be around.

The joys of modding you never get the true value back of what you spend doing it. At least with a guaranteed value pay out you seem to cover much of the cost.

If the chassis is good then that car is a bargain. Peter could even buy it and sell it for a little more. That's what I did with my tubby when they were worth alot less. Got it back from the insurance for £3.5k and sold as it was for £5.5k
