Best day of the year and I break my windscreen :(

Posted Image

Always a silver lining, I wanted a black surround anyway and the windscreen had quite a few nasty chips/cracks anyway. just a pity it happened today (Was very warm and I was just moving the mirror!, although to be fair I was turning it round to see how hard it would be to remove the ball joint and put on a new one, but not massive force!)

So car already left in for repair tomorrow, left the hardtop and soft top and the guy didn't mind me pointing out they should align to the new screen, he seemed familiar with the process, if not the exact car.

So tomorrow I'll have a nice new screen, just in time for the weather to change back to rain, Insurance excess was £70

make sure he fits it with the hardtop on..its a must do...

also surely they are only changing over the glass, not the surround?....you would do well do anu wrapping after old glass comes out and new goes in..imo

Surround is bonded to the glass. You replace the whole thing.

yeah they said it was a bonded surround, only comes in black, which is fine by me !

I explained the soft top and hard top fitting and left both with him to test while fitting, he was happy with that.

fingers crossed for tomorrow !

Is the black one the heated windscreen or just the lotus one?

They know it's a clam off job I take it?  If they do a good job it's probably worth posting up... as I think some people have struggled to find a good repairer.

I'll try to get pictures, its in their workshop now and they will fit tomorrow , the screen IS a Lotus S2 one with black surround

I believe the clam can be loosened and nudged forward ?

Yes clam does not need to come off, just the wing tips by the bottom of the screen need to be nudged forward a few mm. Surprised they got a screen in that quickly, lotus specialist?

Not Lotus specialist, they said they had 1 Lotus screen in stock in the island of Ireland that was available, although they had to ship it up from southern Ireland.

I phoned them this morning to ask for photographs before, during and after and check on delivery, they said it was due in by 9am and the photos they will see what they can do.

I've been busy in work since and havent had time to contact them today since, so will phone them shortly to check, in fact I'll just drive down to look !

picked car up this afternoon, great job, well pleased.

They phoned me to suggest I dont fit the rear view mirror again, as it looks good without, but happy to fit mirror if I decided I wanted it.

Have to say, I didnt realise just how much the Mirror covered the screen.... seems so open now. so I think I'll keep it like that.

Test fitted hard top and soft top with me to prove all good, said one of the clam bolts was a barsteward !

So got a black surround now, looks good!, however..... I think with hard top and top less it looks great, with red soft top it now looks odd :(

I always liked the red soft top :(

sigh......

You could always just wrap the surround in silver vinyl. Or plasticote paint.
