Hi Everybody

As a new owner and long time lurker I wanted to introduce myself and say thank you to everyone who contributes on here, the guides and help pre-purchase were invaluable and I might not have taken the plunge without the community.

The VX is a 2002 NA. I got her at an excellent price, no damage and suspension mounts looking great. New-ish engine mounts and even the heater works. First jobs are toe links, hub carrier bolts and chain as recommended. Have driven the car over 100 miles and all I can say is wow.

I bought the VX as an entry to track driving, something I've done a little of but always wanted to do more of. Its going to be a bit of a project, motivated by the fantastic work on the BADSTER (its for sale!) and by Manus. Currently in talks with an engineering company to make that happen, and will start a thread on it soon. Any thoughts, comments and help would be very welcome.

:)

Welcome. There's a few other VXers down your way and I'm sure they'll chip in soon.

Thanks everyone, having now spent considerable time on here this is fast becoming the car I should have bought years ago (rather than BMW's, 350z's etc etc)

Welcome. Lovely colour and looks a nice example of a standard unmodified na. The last Dorset meet was over 3 years ago - there's about a dozen of us in Dorset but we generally tack on to other meets elsewhere. Keep an eye out for some stuff in the meets section or on the FB page. Enjoy :)

What is your target and planned mods? Sounds interesting.

If you are planning major mods, then Joe and Lee do a good deal on supercharging, Z22 engine building is often done by Vocky, though other companies like Jonnyboy's can handle larger projects as an entirety.

My suggestion would be to use the specialist knowledge of people on this site rather than using generic engineering firms.

All the best with the new car. Take it easy until you come to terms with short wheelbase, mid engine and old design of tyres. As seen on a recent thread on here these cars (even std) can be very rapid point to point, you need to accept they do it in a very different way to front engine RWD vehicles that weigh twice the weight.

Have fun, I have for the last 8 years.

Kind regards, Paul

Thanks guys, i'll keep an eye out as I would like to meet some of the people i've read so much about.

Project wise, I'm going to open a new thread shortly and introduce it properly but what I am doing is re-bodying the VX with a Exige-esque lightweight fibreglass clams/panels and have something that runs as a relatively cheap track day weapon. For me, the aim is smiles per minute without the worry of putting an actual Exige into the barrier, and being able to work an office job whilst affording to replace all that will need replacing from track days. Where else can you find a car that will perform brilliantly yet not cost the earth in terms of discs/pads/tyres/spares. I love the fact that its badged as a Vauxhall yet does and will slay those believing themselves to be meaner.

Loads of threads on here with people who have done something similar so loads of inspiration. Eventually when it comes to power Vocky seems to be the go to man, appreciate the tip.

Paulus - all good points and thank you. My second ever car was an MG TF which had the same bite as the VX with the MR config. I was lucky enough recently to spend some time out in Arizona at Bondurant's playing with fast cars and learning a little more how to drive - but none running MR. Your 100k+ miles is impressive, i'm hoping that I can eventually use the VX as a (summer) daily and master it. I just wish I had managed to find the car I did before summer started!
