Short shaft, NTN/SNR. I'll confirm in a week or so whether its correct or not. According the the part number searches I've done it is.

Seems to be correct for full shaft. I believe turbo and 2.2 are the same, same gearbox (albeit with different ratios), hubs and shafts. 

 

Shaft has been shipped, I should have it in a few days to confirm. If they actually send a NTN/SNR shaft then it should be the same as OEM which is £200 +vat from Elise Parts. Naturally I might have ordered completely the wrong part in which case I'll be paying that 200+vat 

 

Inner CV joint looks to be from an Astra GSI, they are available(ish) but it ends up being £80-100 more for a shaft than a branded joint and a load of mess so I didn't really see the point.

So short shaft is same as Astra ?

 

Is long shaft also just from an Astra ?

 

Or are some aspects unique to the 220 ?

Right now I'm really not sure. 

 

The shaft I have bought is for a VX220 according to the part numbers. The inner joint on the short side seems to be from an Astra GSI - I don't know about the long shaft or inner joint. 

 

The long shaft from what I can tell is different to most of the Vauxhall range as it doesn't use a centre support bearing, there is a thread on here somewhere showing someone 'upgrade' to equal length shafts which on a FWD makes a for a big difference, on a RWD I am not convinced.

Mildly related, but I have a centre support bracket from a US car that uses the equal length shafts (I think it's a Saturn Ion Redline - but don't quote me) as they used the Z22se as the L61 engine and it bolts on to the block and girdle
The Redline used the LSJ - the 2.0 version, aka SAAB B270, but supercharged rather than turbo. Other variants use the 2.2.

If i had the actual centre shaft I may have made the effort to go for equal length driveshafts, but I also realised it narrowed my options for my 4-2-1 exhaust in terms of space, so I gave up.


[edit] Now that I write that all out an old SAAB would probably give up most of the bits to anyone doing a conversion.

Yes I think there is someone on here who has done the conversion. 

 

My shaft arrived and looks 100% correct - yet to fit it as I've got the exhaust manifold off to repair a crack, driveshaft it next!
