Hi, finally have my car roling and I belive I have it under Control now aftery Engine change, but we will see about that.  

Anyway  to next year I was thinking about installing a roll Cage and get a 6 Point belt harness.

Which Points do you use for fastening the harnes? 2 of the Points over the shoulders I know you fasten in the roll Cage. But  the other 2, 3or 4? What do most of you track day/race ppl use  in here. 4, 5 or 6 Point harness?

 

And about the roll Cage,  I was thinking of use the existing roll bar and add a X in it and maybe weld in to pieces in the stupid cutouts for the head rest. And add bars going front besides the roof line and down to the sills. and adding a windscreen bar and a X in the roof.

I´d like to keep the speaker panel as far as possible (probably needs to be modifed)  as noise reduction,keep the speaker and a cosy feeling.  :-) It´s still a road car.

 

Any ideas or recomendations, do you have some Pictures of your roll Cages?

Most don't go near a cage for track days and seem to handle the worst quite well, but I do love a cage 😎 If used on the road be mindful of padding in the even of a bump on the road and head and cage mixture not a good one 😉 Just look at approved cage designed on the vx and Elise as a starting point Good luck with it DG

Harness tend to use the seat mounting points for lap belt and you drill / spreader plate for centre Few build threads show this and search should bring up all the sensible advice

Indeed, some of the roll cages I've seen in VX's seem to induce as much danger to the head as they defend against. MaxR's rollcage in particular seemed to be a real helmet/head breaker sideways.

Would not go in a roll caged car without a helmet. Once you fit a cage it is not road car any more basically. You dont want to attach the belts to the seat or runners. If the seat mountings fail you will not be secured.

Use the lotus crotch bar thing as it's cheap and easy to fit.

Put in some eye bolts for the lap one, I went down through the bit where the rear seat bolts into with spreader plates underneath.

The standard belt bolts to the seat. If it's strong enough for oem why won't it work for harnesses?

It is odd that belts have to be mounted using 7/16 unf thread but the seat is fine with M8 bolts which are much smaller.

True, but th seat rail bolts are stretched/pulled in a crash pretty much where the sealbets botls are sheared.

And then you have a lot of leagal demans for the seatbelt itselfs uninstalled.

How much work is needed to remove original roll bar, do you need to cut in the body panels or can it be done without?

 

Do you have any pictureor ideas of a dangerous roll Cage without helmet and a less dangerous roll Cage without helmet?

how much does the cage and extra bits , like 6 point weigh

If you intend to drive the car on the street I wouldn't fit a 6 point cage as the front hoops will be very close to the head. I would then only fit a new main rollbar with new back stays.

Can the OEM rollbar be removed without cutting any panels?

Thinking of reinforcing std roll bar and maybe add something like this.

 

 

That would be easy to remove between track days.

Is is a must to have the S2 roll bar? Could you make it fit the VX220 roll bar. Can you still have the speaker panel in the car?

How safe is the VX220 from.the beginning, can it be so you are increaseing safety? Which are the most worrying bars? The one in above tmwindshield or the one above side window, for road use?

In most of the cages that I've observed it is the horizontal bar above the side windows is the worst culprit, usually it is within 10 CM of the side of your helmet. Very dangerous IMO, as any serious crash is likely to wave your head around sideways.  

Just as background info the best place to be in event of a crash in a normal 4/5 seater car is on the back seat right in the centre. This is because you have the max distance from the sides + front/rear of the car, the least likelyhood of cabin penetration and least risk of hitting your head + arms on anything.
