Oh dear, they've certainly fcuked up the front of that with those separate secondary lights. Just like Mercedes did with that E class a few years ago. thumbsdown

went into lancaster mk skoda dealership today and they are very good :)

i test drove the petrol and the diesel, the petrol is much better drive and power comes in really low 1500ish whereas the diesel felt a bit higher than that

overall the diesel was slow and more of a motorway cruiser. As i only do town / a roads, im persuaded to go for the petrol, it has more BHP but 10lb less torque which i doubt will make that much a difference and i only tow 1 a month max or none if i dont have a trackday booked. so think im going to go for the petrol.

anyone got any experience with the petrol vrs? mpg etc?

i get 30mpg out of the 330d with calm driving with the odd blast on a clear road. so im expecting in reality to get 25mpg with the skoda or better which i think is doable?

the estate petrol should be around 35 mpg, I always seem to find that the quoted city mpg is the real world mpg

45 mpg combined (36 city, 52 highway) according to skoda

apparently low 40s is doable with a long run so plus 10mpg there compared to the 330d

high 20s to low 30s in town / a roads is doable

so overall i cant see it being worse than my 330d

i found the 2.0tdi very sluggish and slow, typical oil burner tbh

just not sure what it would be like to tow with the petrol... the turbo comes in nice and low though so should be similar i guess, but its not like i tow all the time!

towing needs good torque, so you should be okay as there is only 10lb difference thumbsup

How did you get on towing with the BMW's auto box? Wondering whether the current generation of DSG/S-Tronic boxes make for decent towing.

the dpf worries me as it has gone twice on the bimmer now as i do such short blasts and its basically the only thing that isnt covered under the service/maintenance package they supply. Also you have to fit a new genuine dpf filter if it does go which is mega bucks!

techie, i drove both in manual version, Graeme suggested that the dsg box didnt match the characteristics of the diesel engine so told me to go manual

I find leasing works really well for my business..

preset amount to pay with no worries, granted you may pay a little more over the contract but i like the piece of mind.

We currently lease 2 vehicles 1) Fiat 500 cab for my wife        2) VW T5.1 180 DSG Transporter for me.

I bought my last T5 then had a turbo go so px'd it against this one. I did bargain hard on the deal and played a couple of dealers off, it was surprising the deal i ended up with compared to the start quote.

Just be careful at handback time, this is where they can make their money back. I have a paint and bodyshop next door to my workshop so i pay them to go round and do all of the marks before hand back.

Did have a nasty experience with Citroen lease a few years ago when they collected a C5 tourer i had. They did the hand over sheet and agreed that it was in excellent condition, trailered it away and then contacted me to demand £800 for damage (small scratch) to the bonnet that was definitely not there when they picked it up! I refused to pay it and just referred them back to the handover paperwork. They did agree to waive the charge eventually.

One thing i would say, be diligent when you collect the car and when you hand it back...take loads of photo's just in case.

Also in the contract you are allowed "fair wear and tear" on the vehicle but no one seems to have a legal definition of what this means.

I would not touch a lease, unless your happy to pay all the taxes on a new car and left with fcuk all to show for it at the end.

It's no different from buying new, except you pay less each month, don't need a massive deposit, and get a new car every 3 years or so without having to go through the hassle of selling it to tyre kickers. What's not to like?

OK do that for 20 years and at then end give back your 6th or 7th car and have nothing to show for it...

We bought our new car with a £100 deposit

Personal preference I suppose if you don't want to actually own it, I guess its not your responsibility.

There just isn't much difference the money you lose buuing new compared with lease is almost the same It's easy to do the research compare a 3 year old car with say 30k compared to what the lease would cost each month
