Anyone have first hand experience of these cars?

I've heard the RS has a tiny boot, but I need this car to be able to transport four people so I'm concerned some of the sportier seats eat into the rear legroom.

Anyway; any opinions?

having been in my mates st a fair few times and listening to him moan about the gearbox and driveshafts (after only having them replaced 6 months or so ago) i would avoid the rs

golf r would be my choice

Hi Rob, I would cut off a testicle for another garage and an RS to go in it. Simply the best drivers car you can get for £30k. But the golf is the best all rounder with a much classier interior.... Jon

Cheers guys.

Reason for those three are they seem to be the best in class for that size of car at the moment. I think the 135i/M2 etc will be too much.

Any other suggestions....?

I hope the RS driveshaft issue has been resolved from the early ones....I'm test driving one tomorrow I think.

The Rs boot space has been compromised due to the rear drive train and also the sub for the stereo is housed in a foam boot liner with the tyre inflation kit too, some owners have simple binned the sub as its pants, removed the foam liner from the boot altogether then put the boot mat back in giving more boot capacity. They've then fitted the inflation kit with a bungee cord / strap to the side where the Mk2 one was fitted. Looked at a mk3 earlier this year and there was loads of leg room in the rear seats. Not aware of any drive shaft or gear box issues. My mk2 has covered 48k from new and not had a problem with it ;-)

I'd be more worried with the paint on the new Rs or the lack of it  Also another worrying factor with the golf r and the Rs they are both on the hot hatch hit list and thefts have been rife, it would seen the new Rs has the same security flaws as the mk2 with the Obd thefts, so on either aftermarket aditional security is a must ;-)

Cheers Nelly, is it the thinnest of paint finishes on the RS? I'll look closely tomorrow.

If it is a hot hatch you are after I can't recommend Meganes enough. I have the R26 F1 Megane which is fantastic on the road and the track. Supposedly the newer RS 250, 265 and 275 are all superb.
