So, off to Silverstone this weekend and racing on the GP circuit. Sunny weather at an F1 circuit is going to be a shock to the system after the muddy paddock at Cadwell (think Glastonbury) and snow at Oulton park!
Key challenge this weekend is learning the track. I've never done the GP circuit but skipped testing as it was a ridiculous price... I've booked a 20 minute session tomorrow morning to get a few laps in before qualifying but it's a massive circuit and plenty of the others are testing today... I'm not expecting to qualify well!
The race is going to be a treat though. As the track is so big we can run ALL classes (52 cars) in a single race. The benefit is that we get the 20 min practice session, 20 mins for qualifying and then get two 30 minute races. The plan is to split the start - the fastest class (SigMax) will go at the front and go on the lights. Then we'll be lined up behind and go on the flag 10 seconds later with the classic class behind us.
In the race I would expect to catch the slower drivers at the back of the sigmax class and the fastest sigmax cars will catch the tail of the Classic racers so it'll make for some very interesting racing.
Race plan is to keep my nose clean in race one, learn the track some more and get the car to the second race in one piece. In race two I may then be a bit more competitive... but as Mike Tyson says - everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
