So, off to Silverstone this weekend and racing on the GP circuit. Sunny weather at an F1 circuit is going to be a shock to the system after the muddy paddock at Cadwell (think Glastonbury) and snow at Oulton park!

Key challenge this weekend is learning the track. I've never done the GP circuit but skipped testing as it was a ridiculous price... I've booked a 20 minute session tomorrow morning to get a few laps in before qualifying but it's a massive circuit and plenty of the others are testing today... I'm not expecting to qualify well!

The race is going to be a treat though. As the track is so big we can run ALL classes (52 cars) in a single race. The benefit is that we get the 20 min practice session, 20 mins for qualifying and then get two 30 minute races. The plan is to split the start - the fastest class (SigMax) will go at the front and go on the lights. Then we'll be lined up behind and go on the flag 10 seconds later with the classic class behind us.

In the race I would expect to catch the slower drivers at the back of the sigmax class and the fastest sigmax cars will catch the tail of the Classic racers so it'll make for some very interesting racing.

Race plan is to keep my nose clean in race one, learn the track some more and get the car to the second race in one piece. In race two I may then be a bit more competitive... but as Mike Tyson says - everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

Good luck mate, gutted I can't make it but that was always the plan. I've done the GP track before and the key is going to be drafting. Don't overtake too early on the long straights as they will just pass you again before the end. I found the circuit fairly dull but I imagine 52 cars will spice things up a bit :)

Will be watching the timing as always.

My intention this year was to do half the season, Oulton, Cadwell, Snetterton and Anglesey.

I'm doing a test day at Blyton on Monday to try and nail the setup. Fingers crossed I will be higher up the order at Snett thumbsup

Good luck! Silverstone GP one of my favourite tracks, the high speed corners + huge run off means you can really commit 100% everywhere.

So... the plan was to learn the track. Keep it clean in race 1 and try for a result in race 2. The reality..

Qualified: P6 in class (P30 of 52 in outright terms)

Race 1:   Finished P6 in class (27th on the road)

Race 2:   Finished P3 in class (22nd of 52 on the road) for another podium and taste of the champagne :)

Racing with 52 cars in one race is absolutely mad. Loved it!

Will put up some video's over the next few days.

So, here's my first ever racing lap around Silverstone.

Lost 4 places off the start after missing 2nd gear but made up 5 places round the lap... 52 cars on the grid of differing classes makes for some interesting racing.

Thanks Steve. good point! I moved the camera mount this weekend and also changed the gopro settings but didn't check any of it.. For the regs the camera needs to show the front wheels and steering wheel so the mounting point is pretty set but I can point it down more.

Part of the issue is that Race Render puts a black shaded bit across the bottom of the video to help the data stand out but it hides the steering wheel. I'll delete that off next time.

Great driving as usual! This has surely got to be more fun than driving against the clock?

Absolutely. Everything is turned up to 10 - the highs are really high but it has its lows too...

I assume you mean drive over your team mate :-) its a surprisingly common manoeuvre in Caterham racing but one I havent tried yet!
