Have been looking for a fun car to daily drive - and the VX220 Turbo has always been on the short list. Read all the advice on here (as a lurker) for the last few months and constantly checked the cars for sale.

I have now spotted a car on Pistonheads that seems to fit my bill – both financially and in spec.

http://www.pistonhea...---2003/6819622

Reg No. Y60 UPE

Problem is, I am based in Manchester and the car is in Buckinghamshire.

Does anyone know of an Independent who, prior to me schlepping all the way down south, could get out to the car and do an inspection for me?

Alternatively – any members in the Buckinghamshire area willing to meet me at the car to go over it, so I don’t splurge my hard earned cash on a basket case (fingers crossed it’s not).

It is possible that the owner (or previous owners) is/are registered on this forum. If that‘s the case then I would be grateful to learn what you know.

Thanks in advance from, hopefully, a new VX owner…

I'm not wanting to dampen your spirits but that's strong money at nearly 13 grand.

11 is probably somewhere closer to its value

That’s another reason to have it looked at.

Over the past 6 months  (and it’s good news for VX owners) I’ve been carefully watching prices - they are getting stronger all the time it seems.

I would say its not far off I dont think you'll secure a HPI clear Turbo for 11k these days unless its in need of a bit of work. Or maybe a lot of work!

You need to go and have a look. These are old cars now and the gulf between a good one and bad one can be vast. Many cars might need a repaint and all the suspension doing so that "bargain" can need 4k spending just to make it presentable. The sort of cars we mainly sell are over "market" value in some cases but they always sell to people that have seen 6 or 7 and can see that a mint one is worth the additional spend which in some cases might only be a grand or two.

They are the hardest Lotus car to track down these days and its getting harder. Half of our VX stock these days is buying back existing cars we have sold. Being flexible on the mileage could be a smart way into a well maintained car. We've just had one in the workshop on 100k that had everything refreshed and drove really very well. A very good useable car. The owner might sell that if it was of interest its a Coral Blue standard tubby.

One of my “must haves” is the colour – got to be black and a turbo.

And I agree totally, it needs to be looked at – but, alas I don’t have the experience or knowledge to be able to tell (apart from obvious stuff of course) whether it’ a bag of washing or not – hence the request in my first post.

Having said all that, I realise they are older cars and might need some fettling – which I am prepared for - part of the fun (I hope) in owning a VX.

Budget wise, I am prepared to spend more, if necessary- providing it is worth it. You have had some for sale, which fit the bill – unfortunately I wasn’t ready to buy at the time!
