Had my VX (n/a) for well over 5 years now and am still enjoying it but am always wondering if there's something else out there im missing that would give me the same thrills and raw driving experience...but maybe a little more practical (as im sure many owners are) Would like an Evora (N/A) but if im honest its a bit beyond my budget. Have considered things like Honda S2000 and Nissan 350Z (N/A in the past has been my preference) but not sure they look quite special enough after the VX :-) Always fantasy car shopping and starting reading up on the EVO 6 GSR's recently and sounds like they might deliver the kind of experience im after (I know not N/A but you gotta branch out eventually!) Anyone driven an EVO like this and a VX - they are very different but I'd appreciate experiences from a VX owner. Also any other ideas always welcome...(anything sub 6 second ish to 60 considered that handles well) Just for context previous cars have been : Renault 5 GT Turbo Mondeo ST220 Nissan Sunny GTI (N/A) Integra Type R (DC2) Renault Clio v6 Mk2 Ford Focus ST Mk2 (running approx 300 bhp)

In terms of pure smiles per mile and cost I cannot see anything beating an NA Vx220. I've toyed with changes before but just love the plastic box too much to see it go. What is more I have met some cracking people through the car and would never want to turn away from those.

There are a couple in there I bet you wish you had kept Clio v6 for one 😀 I am currently thinking the same the vx is getting more difficult to get in and out as I am getting on a bit but still need the thrills I ain't dead yet 😀

Mine is up on axle stands. Very much an ornament at the moment - although I have decided it would make quite a pretty boat!

Your not wrong....checked the price of the v6 the other day and cant beleive what they are selling for now....would have funded an Evora...;-(

Wife has the EvoX/Ralliart with the tcsst . It's faster then a MY2012 Elise S (ex car of mine). I really really love evo's!!!!!!! My wife's Ralliart is a genuine ricer! Love it!!! It looks like you've had quite a few great drivers cars already. I'd guess that buying another would just be much of a muchness.

 

I think to make a step change to really exhilarate you, you'd have to buy a single seater and get on track. I've been mulling over this for a couple of years myself.

I own a SC'ed 2.2 and an '03 Scooby Impreza WRX. I know the Scooby isn't as raw as the Mitsubishi, but I'd imagine it's a similar-ish driving experience and - fwiw - they're both brilliant in their own ways and you can't really compare them. I wouldn't want to part with either, if that's any help!

I had an EVO VIII FQ340 4 years ago, they are brilliant cars!  I have since had 4 VX220 Turbos and 2 Lotus Exige's.  There is no denying that Lotus variant cars can't be beaten when it comes to fun, however that fun is only achievable 7-8 months of the year.  They can also be tricky on a damp track day.

 

The EVO on the other hand is fun all year round in all types of weather, and very forgiving when pushed beyond your skill limits unlike the VX!  

 

However, unless you have an abundance of cash laying around for maintenance, insurance, and fuel costs not usually associated with VX220's I wouldn't bother looking.  I went through 2 clutches in 1 year, many tyres, pads and discs, and had to replace the AYC pump (A very common fault which cost £1000 to rectify).  Not to mention the 12 MPG I averaged during my ownership.

 

I have no doubt if you drive it "sensibly" the running costs will be cheaper, but then what is the point of buying an EVO?

 

If you do make the switch make sure you go in with your eyes wide open and be sure to buy a well cared for example.

I would also consider a M135i or Megane RS250 Cup, they are both getting cheaper and offer a brilliant all round package.  The M135i will remap to 370+ BHP and the Megane to 310+BHP, those power outputs coupled with brilliant chassis make them very capable cars.

On the Evo theme I would say you're better off in an Impreza, specifically a Japan spec WRX STI with the 2 litre engine and twin scroll turbo. My friend has one of these and its running costs are next to nothing but its a weapon! Its 280-300 bhp, large inside, comfy, does use to much fuel if you dont clog it and look really good.

 

I'm seriously thinking about one for a daily. Yes, its not as special as a VX or Evo but it wont cost you loads to buy or run and will be reliable. Leaving your wallet free for the VX.

 

Another option might be a pov spec UK bug eye WRX STI. They can be had for 5k, its not as good as the cars above but its alot of fun for the money.

Thanks for the feedback - will bear in mind everyone's comments and suggestions....but mostly try to be satisfied with the brilliant VX I already have ! :-)

I've owned many cars over the years, including a Renault Spider, should have kept it lol....

 

I went back to VX's twice over the years, they really can't be beaten at their price point in my opinion.

 

Keep the VX and buy a shed.
