Hi Guys,

 

The plastic sill on both sides of the doors are cracked at the top from getting in and out the car. (Because i'm fat)

 

Has anyone used this at all and do you think it would be easy?  -

I don't know how leather would wear on the bit of the car that get in and out of of, has anyone had any experience of this?

 

Other option would be to get covered by an upholsterer (anyone in  Leicester?) if the above is a ball ache! Any hard wearing materials?

Personally I don't think they sit right, from what I've seen the stitching isn't straight but this could be down to poor fitment and the French seam creates a very noticeable bulge. However I may give them a try myself soon but fit a foam scrim underneath it to see if that makes them fit better and get rid of the bulge. Leather should wear well.

I have these on mine, the leather does wear when sliding in and out and there isn't a tidy way to the do the ends of the sill. Will grab some pics and upload them when i get a chance

Not the best angle, gives you an idea tho. Gaffer for a man of your stiching creds on the steering wheel I'd think you'd be able to do a good job.

The bit under the light switch looks creased. I may give it a go with a scrim to smooth it out and give it a soft touch feel.

I took some close up pics to give you an idea of how it fits. This was fitted to my car around 2.5 years ago as the sills and dash were destroyed with cracks and gashes.

 

I'd prefer all standard good condition plastic panels and have since got new sills to replace these with, but it does lend a little comfort to the car, particularly as an arm rest so I havnt bothered changing them.

 

I realised how best to fit the leather after I'd fitted mine and if I was doing it again I'd only glue the seam part and spend a lot of time getting that in a straight line before glueing the rest down.

 

There is a raised part where the stitching is, most noticable on the door. Again in hindsight I could have made a slight channel in the panel to accept this, but TBH no-one notices at events as most old cars and things like TVRs etc have the leather hanging like bags of cow so they just seem surprised how comfy it looks in there.

The plastic sill covers do need to be removed, which is quite easy as its mainly gravity thats keeping most of them in place these days, though some dipstick had sikoflexed mine on which was a pain, I refitted the sills with heavy duty velcro recessed into the undersides and now routinely take them off to clean them.

I honestly cannot remember. I think the red tin in the picture was EvoStik stuff, but it ran out and I used B+Q spray adhesive on the passenger side and had to painstaikingly lift it to reglue down the triangular depressions after about a year, so all I can say is buy the best glue you can.

Carpets were already in the car, not a personal preference but the wifey doesn't mind going anywhere in this one as it's reasonably civilized after hating the last VX and Exige for long journeys.

Buchos. Why does your car always look more purple than my Europa Blue? And I even bought that Poorboys World Blue Hole or whatever it is called that u recommended... 🙄

My iphone pics always seem to bring the purple out, it doesn't look like that with any other camera.
