I assume TA still has a huge number of classes. Club/Pro/RWD/FWD/4WD/Novice/Classic etc etc

Looking at time attack they have some great rounds, is there any reason we wouldn't have a go at a few rounds there? Don't need a roll cage Pirelli Trofeo tyres are doable Don't need a race licence Does anyone know how it works?

I think the way time attack works is you need to p*ss a lot of people off, ignore all good advice and do the exact opposite, bolt scaffolding to your car, set up a just giving page to ask others to pay for your track time and then repeatedly set fire to your car. Ill get my coat... Edit to add: you should do TA in your stage 2 SC. I think youll do well if you can get into the right class!

Hahaha yes I know it doesn't have the greatest rep! Might be a good giggle for a one off though. Really fancy a flying lap! Are there any other better options? How are you enjoying the Caterham racing? Has it financially bankrupt you yet?

Enjoying Caterham racing more after taking the podium at Oulton! Its expensive but its rumoured to get cheaper (actual car costs are peanuts, if you keep it on the black stuff). As youre finding out with sprinting, theres soo much more to Motorsport than nailing one fast lap on a track day and so much of it is in the drivers head. The benefit of the caterhams is that theres no blaming the car. If Im slower its my fault and Im learning from racers that have been extracting every last 10th for 15+ years. Worth every penny (just dont tell the wife what it really costs!). You should definitely find a form of competitive Motorsport you can do regularly!

Haha yes I saw mate great work on the podium :) Yes totally get what your saying it's just the costs that scare me! Such a shame it's so expensive! I don't think I can be arsed with a trailer selling my GT86 for a tow car bla bla Bla. Would want arrive and drive and then it costs a fortune! Is it costing upwards of 15k a season?

If you test for every round, stay in a hotel and pay for a race team to provide emergency support then a weekend is around £1k. European round is probably more like £2k and theres 8 races per year. For a clean season your looking at £8-£10k. Skip testing and it could be closer to £6k. Bin it regularly and £15k is easily possible! Oulton cost me under £600 all in (stayed with family, skipped testing, old tyres). Entry: £425, petrol £50, diesel £80. But that doesnt include license, transponder, club membership... Arrive and drive and guest entry is available.

I bloody love it as a road car, it's great fun Jez has tweaked it for me so it handles amazing now. The down side is it's very very easy to drive exuberantly which requires a lot of restraint

It cost me a good deal more, but that was down to an incident.

Track day trophy looks fun I think that's what 5oc raced in? Other than that some sort of tin top racing. Campaigning something like a Clio 172 would be good fun. The trouble with using the VX SC is that because it's power modded you always end up at the lower end of a class against more highly modded stuff or right at the top of a class with no proper competition. It's ok doing stuff that's pick a class you can win based on the advantage of the car but something more competitive has to be a bigger buzz. Elise trophy looked good but there are too many big spenders in that these days if you wanted a proper go. There should be a load of decent club racing options. One of the guys that was doing the Elise sprint series just moved to mx5 racing that looks good. Actually if you wanted a bit of a next step the LCUK sprint series is pretty competitive there are more closely matched cars on that series that might make it feel more of a battle? There are some very capable cars and drivers in that series.

Thanks Captain very interesting indeed! It's a pretty big commitment still must be great fun though! Maybe one day! Would need to sell the vx though and I enjoy driving it too much! Do you miss the vx at all?

Thanks Jon the only thing that puts me off LCUK is that you get even less running than Javelin sprint series. i do enjoy trying to set a banzai lap, racing just scares me cost and time wise. May give a time attack a go to see what it's like. No interest in racing FWD, and MX5 doesn't appeal.

There is also a lot more to sprinting than just setting a fast lap you have to read and play your competitors and the deliver when it matters. no point in showing your hand to early

No, not at all. I wasnt using it much on the road (south east England is terrible for driving roads) and for track work I prefer the Caterham even though its only an old 1.6 (sorry, probably the wrong place to admit that). Whats the GT86? Something special?

I don't care I just want to go fast every run I wouldn't worry about that.

Little bit different for me as im aiming to do well in the overall championship so have to score points of other classes to give the best chance so its not just your own class your against as championship points is based on overall championship points.
