You will most likely need the VX220 adapter, I think. I don't know what the Elise S2 adapter looks like.

Is there any way that when, sorry, if, the EML light comes on it could give the code? Would be a useful thing.

Not without modifying the software heavily. It's only looking at specific CAN messages.
