I find when I'm on track I barely look at the dials at all, so for me I'd like like warnings to take over the screen. I change gear by ear more than eye and I think gear indicators are more for paddle cars. So a bright orange "screen of death" with OIL TEMP HIGH or something in massive text to tell you to slow down would be better for me than the little dials or gauges. I'll ask Alec regards diy screens next time I see him.

And I got shot down for the "less is more" attitude

As you point out, you only need info when something is approaching a bad place so you can slow down or change methods etc, until then, revs, shift and fuel will be enough for 95% of people :D

...erm... Would/could it display output from an iPhone? My head unit plays from the Music app on my phone via USB & a Lightning cable... If it is possible to view the Maps app via the unit, I guess I'd have to choose music or Maps?

...oh, also, just suppose DuncanVXR had dropped a little 2.0 TFSi into my car & it had a functioning VX220 Turbo instrument cluster but also had a VAG OBDII port... Does that sound like it would still be "plug & play?"

If it has a functioning oem cluster then it should work fine , there is the question of pwm temp output from your TFSi ? I would expect it to have that . I do nothing with obd port and don't intend to, for me it's a diagnostic port not intended to Be used full time , performance is not guaranteed.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, the instrument cluster is fully functional, including engine temperature. Dunno what "PWM" means though :o
