This is all getting very technical. For simpletons like me, I just want the whizzy whiz bang graphics and the LCD display with regular dash sensors and inputs. I can wait for the other stuff later when someone who knows what they are doing can help me to install it, or better still, install it for me in exchange for many beer tokens :)

When did you say i could buy a 7" dash and how much will it be?

I have prepared some more data for the linear non linear discussion, but I think it's best to Start a technical thread on the dash in the correct part of the forum. I will keep this thread cool ,wizzy and banging all the way ,

Took the car out for a short drive today and have a few early thoughts for both the community and some technical stuff to Alec which I've fed back. Overall it's superb. The dials are crisp and clear, and even on a sunny day with the roof off and no binnacle cover I was able to see them fine. The screen can sit lower than the stack which is ideal for me because my steering wheel is a reverie carbon thing and is a bit smaller, coupled with my tillets means the wheel cuts off the top 20% of the stack. I think I would look to replace my binnacle cover with something much lower giving better visibility, maybe out of thin gauge sheet metal trimmed in alcantara. It wasn't gimmicky when using it and after a few minutes in the oem s1 screen I wasn't really thinking about the screen. It's very tempting to keep flicking between screens though haha. The screen resolution is fine but the contrast ratio isn't the best so the black S3 dials aren't a proper black-black. Maybe better quality screens are available and if the price were right an retina style display would be great, but at the end of the day it's just a speedo not a tv! The screen is operated by a tiny joystick so I would look to find a way to permanently mount it to the column shroud or dash panel, along with the USB port for upgrading unless you make your binnacle cover quick to release. Things which I think need a bit more sorting are a slight rev lag, the handbrake light and the gear selected are work in progress, but I've already had an update via email I need to install. Form a queue because these are going to be popular!!!!!!!!!!!!

I promised to keep the technical info to below geek level For those interested in the screen specs The contrast ratio is 500 and it's led backlit Which is good , but if any of you have a new 4K fancy led tv they will go into the 1000's Oled tv's by their very design have an infinite contrast ratio . I do however render the graphics using materials and lighting to add realism So black plastic under light looks a bit grey . I will produce a white on black graphic for the minimalist out there , with the ability to Turn off elements ( so imagine a screen with only digital speed displayed in the middle for example) very quick and easy layout and it will be a benchmark for the screens contrast and brightness

I thought OLED screens had black blacks due to the nature of OLED back lighting?

OLED screens do not have a backlight ,  the reason they give awesome black is due to there being no backlight

each pixel is self illuminating and its intensity is controlled directly ,  so when its off it has no light emitted at all --so black

the contrast ratio again is awesome because of the fine control of the intensity of each pixel

an LCD has a backlight with liquid crystal acting as shutters to control how much of the light gets through,  even with the shutters totally closed

there is still a tiny amount of light passing through (some screens are better than others) --so not completely black

the contrast ratio is dependent on the blackness achieved and the level of control over the shutters.

Can somebody confirm

VX turbo has no parking brake lamp in the cluster

The brake lamp illuminates for the handbrake and low brake fluid ?

Thats what the circuits are showing and I would like a VXT owner to confirm

thanks

Couple of pics so you can see how much lower you can mount the screen compared to the he stack.

I'm not running the top of the column shroud but that shouldnt affect it by much at all.

Allows for a much shallower binnacle to be fitted and also helps if you have fitted a smaller wheel.

I see what you mean , it's very low , hardly above the facia It may improve your field of view also , You got me thinking , it's possible to remove most of the bulk above the facia, no need for a Binnacle at all . just a simple trim solution

I think I'll look to make something from a sheet of thin gauge metal and trim it in suede unless anyone looks at getting a replacement fitted. Just needs to be like the peak of a baseball cap or something more angular. It's much nicer in the lower position.
