While I dont want to post specifics and make it look like a free classified.

I'm completely miffed with my current 2 week Ad on auto trader, which cost nearly £40!

I believe my car to be resonably priced, infact underselling other available models.  Its a rareish car, so the market is easy to gauge, not to mention ive taken the 'estimated value' Autotrader chucks out when generating the ad, and even undercut that.

But whats more, I started advertising it on ebay in January, and had more propestive buyers (approx 8) contact me, for me to even entertain haggling, while it was priced £500 higher!  Most were rediculously short of a ball park, and the 2/3 that seemed more serious/resonable failed to show up for the arranged viewings.

What i'm more confused about, is that with the ad placed on autotrader, supposidely the better (based on advertising costs anyway) platform, and at a lower price.  I have had 0, zero, interest.  Not the usual half-hearted offer you half of what you want people.  Not even the money laundering scam types, radio silence.  I cant understand having no interest on AT, after having some on EB at a higher price.

I dont know what this thread is,  just a vent I suppose.  Insurance renewal time is coming up next month, and I dont wish to take out a new policy.  And the jokers over at webuyanycar are offering 1.5k under what should be a sensible asking price.

rant over, that felt good for 2 mins.

I had the exact same with an s2 Elise back in November.

Two things I noticed -

1 the price being too low can put some people off as some consider it to be a too good to be true scenario, as soon as i increased the price this started generating interest once again.

2 You are selling a specialist car not a Ford Focus, therefore your market is limited to those people in the know - heavily modified cars are even harder to sell and only really appeal to people who have had similar cars in the past.

Post up a link to your ad and let a few people give pointers - we will help if possible.

Yup same issue, I paid £40 to advertise my car on auto trader only for it to sell on eBay which has a fee of £10, has a lot of interest on eBay aswell and i think only one or two interest on auto trader

I think auto trader is now a bit old school and not the first place people would think of looking eBay for cheaper cars or Piston heads for a more exclusive well looked after car and deserves a loving new owner, but would say pistonhead buyers might want somthing more special perfect

Autotrader = wrong place to advertise a VX. I assume you didn't put it on here, any reason why?

No, its not advertised here.  But I have followed siztenboots idea to post on the FB page.

Its not modified at all, so my assumption was that selling should have been more straight forward than it is proving.

I think Autotrader is more of a Dealership marketplace these days. When I was looking for my current car I purposely filtered out private ads (as part of the payment was to be on a 0% credit card). It turned that only 2% of the overall ads (circa 1000) were private.

AT is dead these days for private ads.

Most choose PH for a performance car, Gumtree for a total banger and eBay for everything inbetween.

I've always had success with a combination of eBay and PH

But not only that, also a lot of dealers who are only interested in selling credit. Hence finding £6, 7, 8, 9k cars priced with the monthly payment

I only advertise with PH these days. AT is expensive and doesn't generate the levels of interest you would expect. As has been said, for a specialist car like a VX I think most people would go to PH as a first choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just thought i'd clarify.  I'm not selling the VXT, I still very much love it.  I'm selling my pervious car.

The reason my post is lacking these vehicle specific details is as I alluded to, not attempting to post a forum ad/classified.  It was more a vent of frustration at the selling format more than anything.

Most dealers I know have ditched autotrader, most use ebay nowadays.
