Update. I have two possible options under investigation:

1. Building from design created from my old sill - quote due imminently.

2. I have tracked down the original tooling, property of Lotus. Conversations under way to get permission to use the tools / acquire them / take measurements from them. At least it still exists and is serviceable.

UPDATE.

1. The original tooling doesn't seem to be accessible. I can't get a response from anyone at Lotus, so new tooling will be needed. A shame, because it adds cost and risk to the process. It also means that I need to do this in 2 stages - first for NA, second for Turbo, as I need to ensure that I get enough uptake before committing to Turbo pocket tooling.

2. Material. The original textured ABS is not available. There are 3 options here - pinseal, which is a kind of leather texture (I don't like it as it looks and feels cheap), smooth with a carbon effect overlay (will scratch easily and looks like a Halfords part) or a leathergrain soft touch (much nicer than OEM). Clearly my preference is the soft touch material, but this is quite a departure from original. I'll put a pic on the FB group.

If we go with soft touch, I need to get commitment for 35 pairs of NA versions. They need to be purchased in pairs. Cost per pair would be £180 plus P&P.

Let the NA soft touch leathergrain list begin!

Latter option sounds good & the price doesn't seem bad to me.

Unfortunately, I need Turbo sills, so I'll have to watch and wait.

except for the odd little pockets why are these different on NA AND TURBO. Should be interchangeable so only need to make one type ? ?

Soft touch might be a good thing if it makes them less prone to breaking again.

I'm still in.

D'oh!!!

Was meant to be a link to Simon's Facebook post on Thursday at 11:14.

Head over to the VX220 owners club page and scroll back that far for a photo of the material...in a biscuity colour 😲

I've tracked down the original tooling and the company who made them (the sills) for GM Lotus.

The tooling still exists but woukd need the OK from GM to use.

Trying to track down someone in GM.

Nothing ventured.... and OEM tooling and original OEM manufacturer would be OEM fit and finish?
