options

poor map

cracked exhaust throwing lambda readings out

lambdas them selves

fuel pump

blocked air filter

injectors stroke pump not able to supply enough fuel but you would think this would show its self when mapped

or the fuel pressure regulator or boost pipe fell off or broke

other option IAT to high but no Tmap to measure inlet temps (is CC working ?)

car appears to be running rich like other CS cars so unlikely to be fuel pump

Glad you have got to the bottom of the issue, sort of.

My mechanic has done a compression test: 185psi 160 170 140 I'm guessing that's not good. :(

Is the 140 on the right hand cylinder as you look from the back?

My mechanic has done a compression test:

185psi
160
170
140

I'm guessing that's not good. :(

It's not amazing, but I would not worry about it. Your engine is making plenty of power and that one cylinder low compression will only be losing you about 2 HP.

Even if all your cylinders were 'only' 140 PSI your engine would still be making almost the same power as it is now.

Just concentrate on eliminating whatever is causing your det. Fix that and just drive it. If the engine does explode (which is unlikely if your top piston skirts and ringlands are ok) then you spend money on a rebuild.

It's too easy to get fixated on unimportant things like a few det marks or bit of oil leaking etc etc. If the engine works (which your dyno lot shows), it works! Hell, my car is full of "bad looking" things, but it works really well and smashes the hell out of anything on the road.

GL.

Yes, readings are near side to offside

Then I would worry about it because that is the cylinder that failed on mine and that is the cylinder that has failed on other sc cars. Being 140 is an indication that it's on its way out. This is exactly what happened to mine. That cylinder will get worse and the others will stay the same. Have you taken the oil cap off with the engine running? Is there pressure coming out when you do?

Thanks Nev and Mark, all good advice. Will do the oil cap off check as you suggest. My thinking is that I get Dutch and see if that solves the problem...if the engine lets go I haven't lost anything

i would investigate the other things,  as it might not be the map which has caused issues,

but the dutch software will help you diagnose

Is there a known reason why that particular cylinder has problems on the Z22? Maybe bad design of the inlet plenum perhaps, or somesuch?

Was it cylinder 1 on Martin S's original Z22se also?

Common on all L4 engines for C1 and C4 to be massively different temperature to C2 and C3 due to flow of coolant. Massive difference in temperatures means piston and piston ring thermal expansion leading to ring and piston failure.

However, also means that hot compression measurements might convince you of poor compression when really it's a thermal delta.

In my experience these engines do breath heavy.

get rid of the plugs and get iridium ones for a start, gap them to about 0.7 i think it is.   what fuel do you use?

I had a similar problem with misfire. Changed to iridium and all the misfire went, runs perfect now.

Did it go into limp mode? Any signs of detonation or pre-ignition?

blow by, which if you remove your oil filler cap and hold your hand over you will feel hitting your hand.
